Windows 10: Strange Entry In Start Menu "ms-resource:ProductName" Under "Other" - How To Remove?

Hi,


I've noticed for a little while now that I have a strange entry in my Start Menu, it's shown as "ms-resourceroductName" under the tittle "other" and appears at the bottom.


When I right click it, click More --> App Settings, it shows the full title as: @{Microsoft.PPiProjection_10.0.18362.449_neutral_neutral_cw5n1h2txyewy?ms-resource://Microsoft.PPIProjection/resources/ProductName].


I also noticed the same thing appears in the background apps under it's longer name as stated above.

I assume this was something to do with the 2004/20H2 Updates. When 2004 update initially come out as an optional update, I installed it but it caused a few performance issues so I reverted back to the windows update before. Today I have installed 2004/20H2 updates fine and my system appears OK but I have this strange entry in my start menu/background apps list ever since these updates.

Is there anyway to remove this entry from my start menu and background apps? I have tried to uninstall but that does nothing.


I use Windows 10 Home 64-bit.

Entries in the Start Menu can't be removed

Hi there,

I have two entries in my Start Menu that can't be removed. Both the programs have been uninstalled from my computer, but their entries are still there.

I tried:

1. Going to C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs to remove them there, but they aren't listed there either.
2. Clicking on the entries in the Start Menu. Nothing happens.
3. Right clicking and selecting "Uninstall", nothing happens.
4. Right clicking, going to "More" and selecting "Run as administrator". Nothing happens.
5. Right clicking, going to "More" and selecting "App Settings". Opens and list of apps, and of course, it doesn't list these entries, as they've been uninstalled.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

 

mutant entry in Start: ms-resource:AppName/Text

We would suggest you to follow the below step and let us know if that helps you.

Check for the mutant file "ms-resource:AppName/Text".
and delete it from the below location.

• C:\Users\"username"\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs
  
• C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs
