    Strange issue. Laptop RAM says 1600 Mhz in BIOS, but Task Manager shows 1333 Mhz.


    I'm restoring my old Dell Inspiron 3520. It has 4GB DDR3 1600 Mhz which I am soon going to expand and an i3. I am in the BIOS which is very basic and the RAM indeed shows as 1600 Mhz for "Memory Speed." However in the Task Manager it shows as DDR3 1333 Mhz. I found another post that said you need to enable XMP but I can't find that in the BIOS, it doesn't let me scroll down to the RAM and I can't find an option. It has Windows 8.1.

    Could this be some limitation or setting on Windows 8.1? Does 8 not allow 1600 Mhz? What should I do?

    I'm ordering a DDR3 4GB 1600 Mhz kit from Crucial, will it be compatible with the original Dell RAM that came in this system?

    I have a PNY 16GB dual channel memory kit with 2133Mhz ddr3 and its not showing up on the list Only one thats 16 gb is showing that it can only be ran at 1333 Mhz so should i try lowering the Mhz down to 1333? Should I install the latest bios since it has improved memory compatibility?

    For one i would not yet be trying to overclock my RAM if i am having issues with it, i would set the BIOS to default settings for all, if not had tried this yet. So what was exact model number of PNY ? Not sure where you are lowering it, but would think 1066MHZ for 2133MHZ. Think that is highest frequency it can run at 2133mhz.

    Wrong RAM speed in Windows Task Manager

    Hello. So it looks like in Windows task manager my RAM speed is set at 2800 MHz in slot 1, 3, 5 and 7, but my RAM are using XMProfile 1 at 2666 MHz in BIOS. CPU-Z also tells me that my RAM is in quad channel configuration at 1333 MHz (2666 Mhz divided 2).

    What's the dealio? Is it a Windows bug or something else? My RAM is also reported in the task manager as 16GB (other) instead of DDR4.
