    Strange issues after Anniversary Update.

    Greetings!
My Anniversary Update went fine without any hitches...or so I thought. After the update I noticed some weird stuff happenning.
    - Dialog boxes/windows would only show and outline...then after a while I'd see the text or icons in the window.
    - Text editing in Notepad for example - I'd type but the letters would not appear immediately..it would take several seconds or I'd have to press a key in order for it to show.
    - This morning I Facebooked in Edge, when I clicked on a post the whole screen went white...and unresponsive.

Apart from the last issue it seems as though Windows now has a lag of sorts. I reinstalled both Razer Synapse (mouse and keyboard drivers) and ATI Crimson drivers...in case it was one of those that had the issue. This didn't help.

I ended up reverting to a previous build and everything is fine now...I guess until I update again.

Here are some vids showing some of the issues:
Windows 10 Anniversary Update issue #1 - YouTube

Windows 10 Anniversary Update issue #2 - YouTube - here you can see that window show properly if I click away and then click back to it.

Windows Anniversary Update issue #3 - YouTube - ghost windows

Any ideas or experiences with this?

    Thanks in advance.

Freezing Issue after Win 10 Anniversary update

OK, I solved my issue yesterday.

I have a third HDD in my system. After physically unplugging the drive windows worked again without freezes. But after reconnecting the drive, windows didn't recognize the drive anymore. This problem was gone after several manual restarts of the system.
A very strange behavior, but the anniversary update is running now.

    Strange issues after Anniversary Update.

Issues where Windows don't refresh until F5 is pressed have been reported by a few for years.. yours probably is particularly bad.

    Try searching for
    explorer doesn't refresh
    and you'll see what I mean.Sorry, I don't know a definitive clear fix.

    Note e.g.
    "
    Just right click on desktop
    Click Personalize
    Click Themes

    Click Change desktop icons
    Restore default & OK

And instantly it began to auto refresh with a new folder, rename, delete, copy, etc."

I just had to go back to previous build, then within an hour it updated itself back to the anniversary update. I checked my Programs and Features, and I see several new Program Updates with the date modified "Installed On" showing 12/31/2037 ... Am I missing something here(?)

Hi, here I suggested a solution I came across for explorer not refreshing - eventually the poster did find this solved this. Have a read.. maybe it will help. I'm just not sure you're experiencing the same thing.
Automatic refresh doesn't work in File Explorer, Desktop, Recycle etc. - Page 3 - Windows 10 Forums
Another possibility I've seen someone have success with is using an older version of their graphics card driver. (Or maybe you don't now have the latest..). Somehow with the upgrade some incompatibility was introduced.

    Strange issues after Anniversary Update.

Hi, this should be in a separate thread.
    1. There are ways of deferring and blocking updates (schedule restart in Settings, a trick with metered connections, settings- defer updates) - Pro, Enterprise builds)

and blocking specific updates - see Tutorial section and
    http://www.thewindowsclub.com/block-...-in-windows-10

    2. Strange issues with dates like that have been noted. I forget the detailed cause, but somewhere in the forum there's a reference to it long ago. Happened to me early on.

    Just a little update.

Dalchina - thanks for your suggestions, I tried most of the stuff to no avail.

I decided to uninstall my graphic card driver and it was while this was happening I noticed that everything was fine , I checked the refresh and lag while my screen was in a 1024x768 resolution. So this got me to thinking it's a display driver related issue.

It seems that AU has introduced something regarding the display driver making my updated AMD Crimson (16.7.3) retarded.
    - I reinstalled the latest drivers and chose "restart later" and the PC is fine...until I restart.
    - I can uninstall the display card in Device Manager and then do a scan to reinstall it and all is fine...until I restart.

Will do a bit more checking online to see if this is documented issue.

PS - I also tried AMD's hotfix version 16.8.2, same issue.

Hi, I would guess the driver is being updated when you don't want it to be.

Watch the driver version installed carefully and see if it changes. I'd have thought, though, this might have been noticeable being large.

    Greetings!

This is the answer I posted on answers.microsoft.com where I also posted this problem:

    Hi Likhitha,

Sorry for the late reply, I was on a week's vacation*Smile

I have now done a clean boot.
    - The issue was not present then.

I tried enabling a few startup services and luckily for me was able to pinpoint the troublemaker very early. It turns out that either Asus' AIsuite3 or one of the components is causing this issue. I have not uninstalled AISuite 3 and I no longer have the problem.

Really amazing that it's very often the least likely program/driver that causes PC probems.

Thanks for your suggestions that led me to the solution *Smile

    Regards,
    Ignacio.
