Windows 10: Strange text input issues- Anybody experienced anything similar?

I have just set up a PC for a friend so he can work from home. After installing win 10 and doing the usual updates, office etc I noticed a problem once I had downloaded office and attempted to log into his account In Outlook. I could enter the email address when going through the sign in process but whatever I tried I could not enter the password. After a bit of digging I noticed the search bar, file explorer bar and a few other applications just would not except any text input. What I find strange is some programs such as web browsing and typing in office is working fine. I know it’s not a keyboard issue because I have tried several keyboards and the on-screen keyboard which also won’t type into the problematic programs. I have tried quite allot of options and I can now only assume a corrupted system file is the cause. If I go onto say outlook and when I do attempt to type in the password I notice if I press certain keys such as caps lock it will recognise it and say “caps lock on” but will not register any letters. The problem is as a temp solution while he sorts out a wired connection, we are using a very cheap usb WiFi dongle so internet speeds are horrific. In an attempt to see if a registry issue is the cause I have attempted a DISM fix after a SCANNOW found corruption but was unable to fix it. DISM has also failed without the windows ISO file and downloading it with this horrific dongle is going to take ages. Does anyone know if I am wasting my time looking at corruption as a route cause for this? Thank you windows community! ☺️

Current WIN 10 Home - Version 10.0.18362 Build 18362

• Iobit Advanced SystemCare 12 PRO

After all other MODS did not resolve WAKEUP issue... I decided to test:

• TURN-OFF keyboard (Logitech K400+)

Windows 10 keeps waking from sleep issue has been successfully resolved (going on a week now).

• I would conclude that Microsoft Text Input Application is responsible for this nuisance issue.

Text highlight not sticking - Post Anniversary Update Issue


Immediately following the Anniversary Update, I have been experiencing issues with text highlighting.

Left click text highlighting rarely 'sticks', or stays highlighted after releasing the left mouse button.

Right click text highlighting doesn't highlight text at all.

I have tried using another mouse (different manufacturer) - same issue.

Does anyone have any suggestions, or has anyone experienced this issue?

P.s. I've tried some basic troubleshooting such as searching for updated drivers, restarting system, using another mouse (as mentioned)
