Windows 10: Stuck in Restart: Getting Windows Ready. Don't turn off your computer.

I was prompted by the following news to update my Windows 10:https://www.ctvnews.ca/sci-tech/microsoft-issues-urgent-security-warning-update-your-pc-immediately-1.5499896 One of my laptops updated without problems. The other kept searching for updates, but there was no WiFi activity. After a long while, I closed down all apps and closed the Setting window that was searching for updates. I then used the Start menu to restart the laptop.Now the laptop has been stuck for the better part of an hour with the message "Getting Windows Ready. Don't turn off your computer."What should I do?

I tried to remove the McAfee anti virus program so I could install Norton. It went well until the restart step. The screen says "getting windows ready Don't turn off your computer"

It has been stuck there for 30 minutes or more .

Have you tried any possible troubleshooting steps? If yes, what are those steps? This is to avoid repeating of the possible steps done.

If Windows 10 install gets stuck on the message "Getting Windows ready", it is possible that the internet connection might be running slow. Kindly ensure that your internet connection can suffice the download during the update. The other thing would be a conflict
from external devices. We suggest temporarily disconnect all peripherals aside from mouse and keyboard.
