Windows 10: Stuck on getting windows ready don’t turn off your computer

I would like to help those, who has this issue with Windows 10, or Windows Server 2016.


I had this too, spent a lot of time searching for the solutions, tried every suggestions, but nothing helped to solve this problem. I couldn't start Windows and login, just had the "Getting windows ready" screen.


If you tried everything without any success, give this a try before you reinstall Windows.


1. Boot your installation disc and choose troubleshoot command line.

2. Find out the Windows installation drive, type regedit, select HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and load this hive: <driveletter>:\Windows\System32\config\SYSTEM

3. Browse this path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\<name of imported hive>\ControlSet001\Services\TrustedInstaller

4. Change the value of Start to 0x4. These are the meaning of values:

Automatic 0X2

Manual 0x3

Disabled 0x4

5. So we disabled "Windows Modules Installer" windows service. You can do this with wuauserv as well.

6. Optionally rename C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution too.

Computer stuck at getting windows ready

Hi,

For us to effectively assist you, may we ask if you made any recent changes on your computer prior to the issue?

Have you tried any possible troubleshooting steps? If yes, what are those steps? This is to avoid repeating of the possible steps done.

If Windows 10 install gets stuck on the message "Getting Windows ready", it is possible that the internet connection might be running slow. Kindly ensure that your internet connection can suffice the download during the update. The other thing would be a conflict
from external devices. We suggest temporarily disconnect all peripherals aside from mouse and keyboard.

I tried to remove the McAfee anti virus program so I could install Norton. It went well until the restart step. The screen says "getting windows ready Don't turn off your computer"

It has been stuck there for 30 minutes or more .
