This was Acronis True Image 2018 support not MS or Lenovo (P51). Those familiar with True Image know that you can create bootable media on a flash drive to run the software. No problem with True Image 2017 but True Image 2018 did not work. Although the flash drive loaded the program the GUI was garbled and I was unable to navigate. Support had me switch from UEFI back to Legacy and that was a bad idea. Sorry for the caps but this was what I wrote back to Acronis support. FYI the rest of the message was not in caps:

SUPPORT: I have discussed this issue with the Experts team and they have suggested testing whether changing from UEFI to Legacy mode in BIOS fixes the issue or not. This step is suggested for testing purpose only.
THAT WAS A TERRIBLE SUGGESTION. I WENT INTO THE BIOS AND DID AS YOU INSTRUCTED AND CHANGED FROM UEFI TO LEGACY. I CLICKED EXIT AND SAVE AND WITH THE FLASH DRIVE PLUGGED IN THE 2018 BOOTABLE MEDIA I WENT TO BOOT MENU OPTIONS AND CHOOSE BOOT FROM FLASH DRIVE AND I WAS DROPPED BACK INTO THE BOOT MENU OPTION. SEE ENCLOSED PICTURE. I THEN SELECTED BOOT FROM THE SSD DRIVE AND I WAS AGAIN STUCK IN A LOOP THAT DROPPED ME BACK INTO THE BOOT MENU OPTION. I THEN TRIED BOOTING FROM THE SECOND INTERNAL HDD OPTION AND AGAIN WAS DROPPED BACK INTO THE BOOT MENU. I COULD NOT GET BACK INTO THE BIOS TO CHANGE BACK TO UEFI FROM LEGACY. I HAD TO DO A HARD SHUTDOWN AND POWER BACK ON AND ONLY THEN WAS I ABLE TO GET INTO THE BIOS AND CHANGE BACK FROM LEGACY TO UEFI.

This is a pic of the loop I was caught up in. Why do you all think I was not able to boot either from the flash drive or the SSD or the HDD once I changed from UEFI to Legacy in the BIOS? TIA.

  2. How Should I Update To Win 10 from Win 7 when I still need Win 7?

As long as you confirm the UEFI Boot is enabled now then it must be the stick. But your second picture showed you had changed it to Legacy so check now to be sure.

You can confirm for sure whether Windows 8 is installed to Legacy this way:
BIOS Mode - See if Windows Boot in UEFI or Legacy Mode

    Then wipe the stick with
    Diskpart Clean Command
and run the Media Creation Tool again. I'd do it from Windows 8.1

I've never seen two flash stick choices before. Do you have anything else plugged in? Did you try both choices?

If this fails to present a UEFI flash stick to choose then you can try another stick or try changing settings to Legacy to boot the stick normally.

  3. Unable to upgrade to Windows 10, Error message: A system image created using UEFI cannot be restored on a computer using legacy BIOS.

    Hi,

UEFI BIOS supports two boot modes: Legacy BIOS boot mode and UEFI boot mode. Some devices and operating systems do not yet support UEFI-based BIOS and can boot only from Legacy BIOS boot mode. Choose Legacy BIOS boot mode to allow HBAs and Express
Module devices to use option ROMs. Choose UEFI boot mode to use UEFI drivers.

Only devices that support the selected boot mode are listed on the BIOS Boot screen. If you select UEFI Boot Mode, only boot candidates that support UEFI BIOS boot mode are listed on the BIOS Setup Utility screens in the Boot Options Priority list.
If you select Legacy BIOS boot mode, only boot candidates that support Legacy BIOS boot mode are listed in the Boot Options Priority list.

Support Had Me Change From UEFI to Legacy mode in BIOS Re: DISASTER

Depending on how Windows was installed, If UEFI was used, then the computer needs to be reset to use UEFI. which should include your Samsung CD/DVD drive, or your USB San Disk flash drive. Setting it to Legacy will allow you to boot from a non UEFI device (ie) San Disk etc, but it will not boot Windows Afterward. In other words, after using Acronis, you would need to reset the Bios back to UEFI
If you could not read the Acronis when you booted from it, then the burn to the Flash drive was not successful. You can make a UEFI bootable USB Flash Drive using Rufus in my signature. Under the partition scheme, change it to GPT partition scheme for UEFI Bios, and browse it to your Acronis ISO image. UEFI Bootable USB Flash Drive - Create in Windows | Eight Forums

Maybe that's why they had me switch to Legacy but as I said once I did neither the flash drive nor the ssd or the HDD would boot,

    >You can make a UEFI bootable USB Flash Drive using Rufus

Yeah, I'll give that a go. I have the ISO. Can not recall off hand but I believe I tried RUFUS with a much earlier version of True Image maybe like 2013 or something and it was a no go. Maybe RUFUS will support this version of True Image. Funny the flash drive with 2018 True Image (media builder built using the included software) does in fact boot (before I switched it to Legacy) however the GUI is fracked. Top menu bar all scrunched up and the tools etc. are in accessible.

With True Image 2018 when creating the bootable media you have a choice of WinPE or a WinRe if you choose custom build. MS ADK is needed which was installed prior. However if you do not choose custom there is a simple operation choice which I believe creates a Linux bootable media though wouldn't you know when I had version 2017 the Linux option did not work and support had me download the MS ADK package and choose custom which worked just fine. I might try and also scrub the flash drive and choose simple install to the flash rather then custom and see what happens if I do that. Thanks
