Windows 10: Surface Laptop 1 TimeZone keeps changing

**Posted this in the discussion thread by mistake. I will delete that thread and post it here as a question.


As the subject shows, the Surface Laptop has been persistently changing timezone. This laptop is a domain joined laptop working from home and but not connected to VPN, has a GPO enabled for tzautoupdate, has the region set to Ireland, and has the timezone set to UTC+00:00 Dublin, Edinburgh, Lisbon, London manually.



This laptop was originally being used in Hong Kong. The user moved to our Dublin, Ireland site and the timezone has been changing back to Hong Kong ever since. The user changes the region to Dublin but after an hour or so, it would change back to Hong Kong.



Played around with some of the following registry:

• HKCU\Control Panel\International
• HKCU\Control Panel\International\iCountry
• HKCU\Control Panel\International\sCountry
• HKCU\Control Panel\International\Locale
• HKCU\Control Panel\International\Geo\Nation
• HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\W32Time\Start

And some other registry in HKLM that I might have already forgotten.


Just want to see if there are any other things I can try?

Timezone Change

Hi Iselda,

For us to properly isolate the issue with changing the timezone, we would like to know the following:

• Were there any changes made on your computer prior to the issue (e.g., updates, software installation)?
• What is the exact error message that you are getting?
• To make sure that we have not missed on anything, what troubleshooting steps have you done so far?

As an initial resolution, we suggest that you follow the steps below:

• In the search box, type in cmd. You'll see Command Prompt listed.
  Right-click and select Run as Administrator.
• Type tzutil /l to see the list of all time zones.
• Once you have found your time zone, copy the description that is on the second line. Example:
  
  (UTC-06:00) Central Time (US & Canada)
  
  Central Standard Time <---- copy
  
• Afterwards, type tzutil /s "paste the time zone here". Like this:
  
  tzutil /s "Central Standard Time" (make sure to include the quotations!); then, Enter.
  
• Exit the Command Prompt, and then go to your time settings.

Boot Surface Laptop to USB - no Volume button

Hello Jimmy,

This doesn't list the "Surface Laptop", but you might give it a try to see.

Otherwise, you should be able to use OPTION ONE below to boot from the USB from advanced startup.

Caracas Timezone change

Try changing the Timezone to a different zone then go back to your timezone to see if it works.
