Windows 10: Surface Pro 4 and update to 1809 - fails with 0x00000002 error

Hi,


I've Surface Pro 4 with Windows 10 Pro ver. 1803. I try to install November update (1809) via update assistant tool (this update is not available via settings -> update, unfortunately, does anybody know why?). Everything seems to go well, files are downloaded, computer reboots once, shows update indicator, reboots the second times, shows a message like "can't install the update, revert changes", reboots again and I still have an old version of Windows.


In C:\$WINDOWS.~BT\Sources\rollback\setuperr.log I have:

"2018-12-07 22:08:06, Error SP CSetupPlatformOSSwitchCheckpoint::Rollback: Failed to read the rollback GUID from file: C:\$WINDOWS.~BT\Sources\Rollback\rollbackinfo.ini. Error: 0x00000002[gle=0x00000002]"

I tried to run the update assistant as administrator but with the same result.


I have no third party software like antivirus, disk encoders and so on. Pure Windows 10 Pro with Office and some other tools and apps.


How can I update my Surface? Any hints?

The main causes observed so far are driver issues, so I suggest you to install and update all the drivers and see if it helps.

Download drivers and firmware for Surface

I would also suggest you to install all Windows update and check.

Follow the steps:

1. On the search bar type “Settings”.

2. Click on “Update and Security”.

3. Click on “Check for Updates”.

4. Read and accept the license terms, and then tap or click Finish if the update requires it.
