  1. suspected drive failure (event id 154) - logical or physical?

I know it may be hard to diagnose, and I was led to think the drive (WDC WD30EZRX) is indeed physically damaged (just 12 days of Power on time), as the error 154 of the kind reported next, is repeatedly recorded in the event viewer:

The IO operation at logical block address 0x22c800 for Disk 1 (PDO name: \Device\000000e3) failed due to a hardware error.

So for the purpose of data recovery I was considering PCB swap, when I realized that it might not be an hardware error for sure, as the disk is correctly recognized by the BIOS/UEFI, although when I try and initialize it in the disk manager, where it shows up as unallocated, it does not succeed.

I am willing to know whether I may hope that the problem is not hardware related, from these two details seen in Windows.

I am pretty sure data are still there, undamaged.

Before coming to the present point, when the disk went partially unallocated (meaning only one out of two partitions), I had a chance of connecting once to a laptop externally for the first time, and to my surprise it showed both partitions, same letters, with all the files in there!

I just noticed it was not set for safe removal (odd for windows 10), so I tried changing that but I got the error that it was not possible, then on reboot the disk was as it is now, no matter what I do or where I put the disk.

The short diagnostic self test keeps running for more than 30min and perhaps never ends, but it doesn't find any warning in the while.

I wish the producer could take it back on warranty to fix it and get it back, not sure it is feasible.

I really hope to have some insight to decide the best thing I can do, depending on what may have caused the failure, and hopefully succeed again mounting it to move out data files.

    :)

computer failed to boot - disk error event id 153 + 98

Hi, suggest you try Hard Disk Sentinel (trial) - gives a great quick analysis (SSDs too).

    Please post the results.

    Event ID 153:
This event may be an indication that the specified drive may be failing soon. This is especially true if the event is recorded regularly. The first step is to run the maintenance utilities related to hard drives, starting with CHKDSK and the utilities available from the manufacturer for that specific brand.

  4. suspected drive failure (event id 154) - logical or physical?

    Kernel-Power event id 41. BugcheckCode 0

    Hello,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

In-order to get more clarity on this issue and to assist you with appropriate troubleshooting steps, reply with answers to the below questions:

    1. Are you aware of any changes made on your PC, prior to this issue?
    2. Is this issue specific while playing a particular game?
    3. Which edition of Windows are you currently using?

A Kernel Power Event 41 can occur in the following scenarios.

Scenario 1: The computer restarts, and there is a Stop error BugcheckCode in the event data.

Scenario 2: The computer is shut down by pressing and holding the power button.

Scenario 3: The system randomly restarts and no Stop error BugcheckCode is listed, or the computer is completely unresponsive (hard hang).

I suggest you refer the article on Kernel
    Power Event ID 41
and follow the steps for the scenario that is causing this error on your PC.

Additionally, you can refer the article on Windows
Kernel event ID 41 error "The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first" in Windows

    and check if that helps.
