  1. Suspected router problem

    Hello,
I noticed that when I reset my Verizon router and do a restart, my computer works like brand new. Then after visiting some websites or a day later, it takes to much time to make a connection or when I go to links on the same page. I also noticed that if I single click, I do not get a connection. So when I double click, sometimes it works. When this happens, I reset my router and then everythings normal until the connection problem appears again.

So is there a way to test the router? The router was purchased in the summer of 2015 and I do not know if its still under warranty. (I need to check this against the paperwork).
I also have a Comcast router and I am wondering if I can use that in place of the Verizon router?
My computer is manufactured by Lenovo and they have a software program that tests the hardware and one test indicates a connection problem.

    :)

no internet access after KB4021572 installation

Our cable provider replaced his modem and router and it now works fine. I suspect that the problem was with the router especially because I think it was the older unit,

  3. Windows 10 hangs on login screen

I just had a similar problem, but it was hanging after log in. WiFi router was working but internet was down, but computer said internet connected. I restarted router, computer said network limited and sprang into life. I suspect it was hanging because
it was trying to connect to the internet which was impossible.

iPhone browser mistake. The router would only be an issue if there were changes made that the user can do, such as the LAN IP scheme, trying to use Class B IP's with Class C and nothing to tell the devices and router how the information is supposed to get from point a to point b.
In your case, you cannot compare two different companies equipment, especially that Verizon and Frontier use a lower grade Netgear for those customers who are not on Verizon or Frontier's Fios.

If you are having issues with the computers, it can be as simple as if you are running any kind of Internet Security software to reset it and have it set for the new Private connection and rebuild the rulesets. Also you may need to flush the DNS and IP Cache, which you can do with Farbar's Minitoolbox and Service Scanner. Publisher page for Farbar

Keep in mind that if you bought a eMTA. Comcast uses a Coax connection, Verizon depending on if you have Fios or DSL. FiOS uses a Ethernet connection to a Access Point, because the ONT becomes the Router. DSL uses a all-in-one device that can be Modem/Phone/4-port Ethernet Switch/Wifi Access Point. They are not interchangeable devices.

Only a real Gateway that you connect to a ISP provided modem that acts like a Bridge for say Comcast, you could add your own Gateway All-in-One device or in the case where some of us do what is called a "Edge" Router, which uses DMZ Plus. You are placing a Gateway behind a Gateway with two different LAN segments that are Transparent to each other, unless you build a routing table to allow them to communicate between each, which is not a good thing to do.

In your situation, we need what the manufacturer and model of this "Gateway" that you stated that you are using with Verizon, along with if you have Fios or DSL.

We need more information about what type of internet connection you are talking about? Is it a broadband cable connection with a cable modem/router modem combination? Is it a DSL internet connection? Is it a cell service hotspot?

If your problems are with internet connection only and you either don't use your network for local file transfers or not having a problem with local network traffic, I would start by calling your Internet Service Provider, especially when the service has actually gone bad.

That is very vague statement. Verizon is Fios or DSL. Which do you have? Comcast is CATV, which uses a Coax connection from the pole, which also gives you TV. A Cable Modem/Gateway or eMTA is not interchangeable with a FiOS ONT or Access Point, same as a ADSL+2/VDSL+2 Gateway is not interchangeable with a Cable Modem/Gateway or eMTA.

This is the third time that you have posted about having the same issue, along with an ongoing problem it looks like since March when you joined.

Lets forget about everything that you discussed about in the past, get the basics with what is the service you have with Verizon (Fios (short for Fiber Optics), or DSL (Phone Line to the pole (Old School POTS). Then what is the equipment that you have to connect (DSL Gateway (Modem/4-Port Ethernet Switch/Wifi Access Point). We need the manufacturer and model of the device, otherwise you will be just spinning your wheels at this point.

There is no reason to keep resetting the gateway, because all that it is causing is the provider equipment to have to retrain the modem in your Gateway to the most reliable speed with no errors, your Gateway has to learn how to handle any traffic for Firewall rules that are pre-set, along with routing on the LAN and any other items.

It looks like they have been asking about issues along this line since March.

  11. I checked the paperwork that came with the install. Now some of the computer/router terms I do not understand that have been posted so far. But here is what I have:
Fios Internet with a Fios Quantum Gateway router, model G1100. It is Ethernet connected and is dual band (5GHz/2.4 GHz).

You have failed to answer the one key question. Do you use internal networking at your location to transfer large files inside your network such as stream movie files from your own server or do backups over the network to a storage location on your own network. Or is the only problem you have with the internet. If you don't do large file transfers inside your network or if you do and they are not a problem, then I would start by calling Verizon (I assume they are your Internet Service Provider). Restarting your modem/router combination resets the connection between you and Verizon and that may clearing whatever problem they have on their network that is causing your connection to slow down over time.

If you do large file transfers inside your network, and the traffic inside your own network is affected too, then it is time to start looking at what is slowing the network down inside the house.

I had to check the meaning of internal networking. After which I would say no. I do not do any streaming which I assume are large files. However I do have an external drive I prefer to use for my backups like documents, music files etc. I purchased it because I think it is safer then using dvd's or using C drive. If this is called internal networking, then I am mistaken. So it seems the problem lies with the router. As mentioned earlier, I have software that tests all the hardware and all passed but one and it says there's a connection problem but does not give a solution to fix it.
Maybe I should delete some programs off my system such as Malware antimalware, Ccleaner, Advanced system care and depend on using Norton security and virus program.

  14. Oh wait.I think I got ahead of myself. I have a Roku streaming device hooked up to my tv and this device depends on having a internet connection or it will not work. I used it to stream movies and news. But I do not stream movies or news on my computer. Would this have an effect on the connection?

Dropped connection is always an issue with ISP provided gateway (modem-router device). This is why I disabled my gateway's router (set it to Bridge Mode) and used my router. No issues since I installed it.
