Windows 10: svchost.exe and rundll32.exe is using my microphone

I notice the problem recently, maybe after the update KB4532693.


Everytime I start my windows, I see "1 app using my microphone" tips shows up in taskbar. I click it to get more information. It tells me that svchost.exe is using my microphone. I download theprocess explorer to find out which process excatly that using my microphone. Only to know thatWindows Audio and Windows Audio Endpoint Builder are using my microphone.


I stop the two services, the tip is gone. Actually when I stop Windows Audio, the tip also disappear, but I can't use mics or speakers neither.


When I restart them, the tip shows up again and now rundll32.exe is also using my microphone.


What should I do? Is there anything actually using my mic? Is the tip works properly?

Have you got lots of Rundll32.exe or svchost.exe processes running, or both?

On a normal Windows 10 system, you should not have any Rundll32.exe processes running at all. Check your startup apps the see what is causing this:

• Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc together to open Task Manager, click on the Startup Tab and see if there are any entries that are starting under rundll32, if there are, disable them
• Press WIndows + R keys together to open the run dialog, type msconfig and hit enter. Click on the services tab and check the box marked 'Hide all Microsoft Services'. Then scroll through the list of services looking for rundll32 entries, if you find any,
  uncheck them and reboot

With regards to svchost, i have noticed a huge increase in the number of these processes since the Creators Upgrade - I have 77 currently running on my system. They all are using 0% processor and HDD and on average about 1MB - 2MB, though this number does
seem excessive . . .

DLL (Dynamic Link Library) files can't be launched directly.

Here are methods that we can do to resolve Rundll32.exe errors in Windows 10:

Method 1 – Replace the corrupted file using Startup Repair:

• In the search box, type Recovery options. Double-click Recovery options.
• Go to Advanced startup, click Restart now.
• A blue window will pop-up, select Troubleshooting.
• Select Advanced options > Startup Settings >
  Restart.
• On the new list with settings that will appear, select Enable debugging.

Method 2 – Use the scannow command:

• In the search menu, type cmd.

  • Paste the new rundll32.exe file.
