    Switch from AHCI to RAID

I have Windows 10 Pro installed on an SSD in AHCI mode.

I would like to add a RAID 1 array to this system for storage but I understand some registry tweaks must be made before I can change my BIOS from AHCI to RAID mode or I'll end up hosing Windows.

I've read that the edits for older Windows at https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/922976 do not apply to Windows 10. Anybody know the registry edits that work for Windows 10?

    :)

Windows 10 dual boot, 64bit installed, but 32 bit won't.

    Well, that was easy.

RAID was activated in the BIOS. Switched to AHCI, and everything seems to be doing fine.

Iam Stuck in safe mode loop on Windows 10

    Michel,

I am glad it is all sorted out.

I am still surprised that Asus supplies computers set up in RAID. I have two with SSDs and they have both always been set to AHCI.

I did not know that you could just switch straight from RAID to AHCI with no untoward side-effects.

    All the best,

    Denis

    Switch from AHCI to RAID

Never had to do any kind of registry changes to do Raid 1 before.

You do realize that running a Raid is not about adding storage. It is about being able to mirror a copy across multiple drives. That way if you lose one drive, you are not losing all files.

Basically for Redundancy and speed if you have a fast enough Raid card.

Yes I know, it's intended for data storage.

Anyway I went ahead and set it up despite the warnings in BIOS that changing to RAID could make the system drive unbootable and it worked fine. I guess doing this doesn't create the kinds of problems in Win10 that it used to, or maybe the UEFI BIOS on my Asus Z170 motherboard is just able to handle it OK.

I'll mark it as solved but can't guarantee the same for others.

You have to have more than one drive in order to set up a raid. Depending on which type of raid setup you are looking for, is really all that you have to ask yourself.

And yes, if you screw up the raid setup. You can lose all of your data.

It also has nothing to do with the bios being a UEFI, nor does it have anything to do with Windows 10.
