Windows 10: Synaptics SMBus Touchpad Code 22 Error - Touchpad Not Functional

Hi.


Yesterday, my Synaptics touchpad abruptly failed. I cannot move the mouse or click anything.


I've tried a bunch of things:

• A simple restart
• Contacting Microsoft support, who did an """upgrade""" (it wasn't an actual upgrade to another Windows version or anything, they just basically reinstalled Windows 10 Home, which didn't work)
• Deleting the faulty SMBus driver entirely and then reinstalling it from my laptop manufacturer, HP. Did nothing

The driver randomly disabled itself and moved itself into "Hidden Devices" on Device Manager, and constantly sends back a Code 22 error "This device is disabled, is not present, or it's drivers are not installed correctly."


The only way I am able to use my laptop right now is with the touchscreen.


Any help would be appreciated. I'll be contacting Microsoft support again later today because HP is holding support hostage behind a $50 payment, but all your answers would be greatly appreciated.


Device Specs:

• HP Envy x360 15
• CPU: i7-7500u 2.70Ghz
• GPU: Intel HD Graphics 620
• 16 GB RAM
• 1 TB HDD

Synaptics - Pointing Drawing - Synaptics SMBus TouchPad Driver update is available but not installing/updating

 

Windows update error: Synaptics - Pointing Drawing - Synaptics SMBus TouchPad - Error 0x80248007

Hi,

I keep getting this error when running windows update : "Synaptics - Pointing Drawing - Synaptics SMBus TouchPad - Error 0x80248007"

I've tried removing a every driver that uses a synaptic device - but still - it keeps giving back errors.

One suggestion I found was this:

to reset the whole windows update data/configuration - but I am afraid that this may break even more.

What can I do now, or is there a way to hide only this update?

I have tried to do this with the
PSwindowsupdate - but this update does not appear anywhere.

Synaptics driver update for Synaptics SMBus ClickPad - Error 0x800f0248

Hi,

This issue may occur due to the outdated Synaptic Touchpad
drivers. Try the below steps and check if it helps.

I would suggest you to download and install the latest Synaptic Touchpad drivers from the device manufacturer’s website and uninstall the Synaptic touchpad drivers and re-install the same again.

Note: Make sure you download and save the Touch Pad driver and installed it before uninstalling the same.

To uninstall Synaptic touchpad drivers, follow these steps:

• 
  Press Windows key + X and click on
  Device Manager.
  
• 
  Locate Mice and other pointing devices and expand the same.
  
• 
  Right-click the Synaptic driver and select
  Uninstall. (Note: keep the latest installed Synaptic driver)
  
• 
  Restart the computer, if prompted.
