Windows 10: Synaptics Touchpad stopped working.

Today evening suddenly my HP Envy laptop's touchpad has stopped working. I have for now attached an external usb mouse. I tried going through various queries and tried various things. The final status is that the Devices option shows the Synaptics SMBus Touchpad only when i enable 'show hidden devices'. The Synaptics SMBus Touchpad appears with an Exclamation mark inside a yellow triangle.


When I right click it for Properties, the Device status reads as "This device is not present, is not working properly, or does not have all its drivers installed. Code 24".


When i click on Drivers tab and click on Update drivers, it says that Windows has determined that the best driver for this device has already been installed. Driver details shows a long list of file names.


I tried Disabling and Enabling device.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling.

Nothing works.


Please help.

SYNAPTICS TOUCHPAD NOT WORKING

Take actions related to touchpad driver

Windows Key+X (Or right click on Start) > Click Device Manager > View tab > Show hidden devices > Expand Human Interface devices > Right click on the touchpad listed there >

A. Roll back the driver (You will have to repeat the steps for all entries listed including Synaptics)

Click Properties > Under Driver tab, if Rollback Driver is enabled click it

B. Update driver from manufacturer's website (You will have to repeat the steps for all entries listed including Synaptics)

Go to the website of the computer's manufacturer > See if some driver is released for your model and OS > If yes, download that > In previous option, you click Update Driver Software, in place of this, click Uninstall > Install the downloaded driver > Restart

Latest Synaptics Touchpad Driver for Windows 10


After updating from b. 10240 to 10586.3 ( W 10 x64), Windows installed an older version of Synaptics 19.0.15.2, before I had 19.0.19.1.
Also now, in Device Manager, it's listed under PS/2 Port touchpad, before it was SmBus.
Windows Update does no longer provide 19.0.19.1 driver, Why??
What are the recommended steps to get installed manually the latest Synaptics driver because with the currently installed driver, mouse scrolling does not work for Start menu - All apps, with 19.0.19.1 it used to work.
Also what is the name of the x64 .inf to use for update synSmbDrv.inf or SynPD.inf??

Synaptics Touchpad stops working or keeps moving itself

I am using Windows 10 version 1703 (OS Build 15063.413) on HP Notebook 1000. And just for reference I have encountered this issue in previous versions of Windows 10 as well. Every time I clean install Windows 10 and update to install drivers, it will work fine for about 1-2 months and then suddenly out of nowhere touchpad will either stops working or keeps moving itself after 5-10 minutes of restart ( even if I don't update Windows, means same drivers version ).

Right now I have installed version 19.3.31.16 of Synaptics pointing device drivers. But I have tried to solve this issue by installing previous version of drivers as well ( version 8.xx, 10.xx, 17.xx, 19.0.19.1 ). After installing drivers the first time it works fine for about 15 minutes and then same issue!

I have noticed this btw:

• Every time I put the laptop to sleep and then log on, touchpad works fine for about 5 minutes.
• Every time I restart the laptop, it works fine for about 5 minutes.
• Even If I uninstall the drivers and use basic drivers by Windows 10, the same thing happens. Touchpad keeps flickering, moving itself or would just stop working.
• Sometimes Upper right or left corner of touchpad will work fine while the rest of the area is unresponsive.

Have anybody else encountered this issue? How did you resolve it? I don't wanna install Windows again or keep restarting my laptop.
