    System Image Recovery Troubleshooting

Hi all. I am unable to recover system images saved on an external HD in Windows 10. I have 2 different images and neither can be located in the recovery process. I've tried locating the image files on two different computers, through both Win10's Recovery tool and Win7's Restore tool, but the files do not appear using either method. The files do exist -- they appear in File Explorer -- and I can confirm that the folder structure is the way it is supposed to be (i.e. the folder names are correct, no extra folders or files are saved in the structure, etc.).

I've spent many hours over the last 3 days trying to figure out a solution, to no avail. It appears that many others have faced this issue, but any suggestions I've found online do not work for me. I'm at the end of my rope...please help! Thank you.

    :)

It goes blank. Yes, I used "create system image" in the control panel to save it.

Windows Imaging doesn't always cooperate when restoring to another drive.

You can reinstall the source HD to capture the image externally using
Macrium Reflect is a Free and Easy To Use Backup Utility
which will allow choosing any partitions to restore and then placing them wherever you want them on any other drive.

    You can also do a
    Clean Install Windows 10
which compiles the best install one can have which will stay that way as long as you stick with the steps, tools and methods given. This is a much better install than a factory install or Upgrade.

I assume you are talking about Windows 10 own system image backup.

This is how I do it if I need to do a system image recovery, and I have had done that numerous times.

Assuming you are able to sign in to Windows 10.........................
Settings > Update & Security > left side, Recovery > right side, under Advanced startup, click the Restart now button > Troubleshoot > Advanced options > System Image Recovery...................

If you have problem signing in....................

Restart your computer > at the sign in screen, bottom right is a Power icon > clicking it will give you Restart option.
Press Shift key and Hold > click Restart > Troubleshoot > Advanced options > System Image Recovery...............
