Windows 10: System restore keeps giving password incorrect

1. Power dipped and PC switched off. When power returned I switched on my PC

2. A message appeared saying Microsoft was preparing an automatic repair

3. A screen appeared requesting I select my account & enter my password.

4. I selected my Admin account & entered the Microsoft password I recently reset & verified earlier today is valid and works, for example accessing my Microsoft account.

5. Password once again is not accepted

6. Selected “Forgot password - restart”

7. Microsoft message appears “Your pc ran into a problem and needs to restart”

8. Computer then doesn’t restart, but shuts down

9. Waited 10 mins to see if PC restarted. Did not restart.

10. Powered up PC, steps 2 - 8 repeat.

11. Attempted further power up - steps 2 - 8 repeated again.


In effect I am now completely locked out of my computer until and if a fix can be provided.

So the backstory is i downloaded a driver and it has killed my pc. It keeps loading me into system restore and asking for a password that is constantly incorrect.

Windows 10 1709 System Restore problems...

That seems to be an attempt at Option 2 in the tutorial, which requires you to
a. Boot to a command prompt (Did you?)
b. You then seem to be mixing steps 3,4 and 5, thus your command is incorrect.

I suggest Option 1 is easier.
