Windows 10: System Restore will not create a restore point

This has been a recurring problem on my HP Pavilion with Windows 10 64bit. I cannot create a System Restore point and System Protection will not turn on. It just keep searching for drives. The error code given is 0x81000203.


I have also tried installing Macrium Reflect as a means of back up and that has also failed. In the past with System restore I have managed to use work arounds and get it on again but this time I cannot. The computer is just over one year old.


There are a number of suggested solutions out there and I have tried the ones that don't involve changing my registry but none have worked. Many blame Tune-up Utilities but I don't have it.


Can anyone offer a suggestion?

I like to inform you that, Windows automatically creates a restore point when you install desktop apps and new Windows updates, if the last restore point is older than 7 days. You can also create a restore point manually at any time.

To create restore point Manually, follow the below steps:

1. Press the WinKey+X to display the system menu and click
System.

2. On the left side menu, click
System Protection.

3. In the Protection Settings section, click the
C: (system) drive.

4. Click the Create button.

5. Type a name for the System Restore file (The
Date and Time will be added automatically).

Mussels did not fail, those two are answers are very common with what you are describing. You can try to go back to a system restore point located in the help folder in control panel. Have you created any recent restore points?
