Windows 10: System sounds unmutes themselves and volume maxes out

I ran into a lot of issues last month, after being forced to update my windows version. Every time I take a screenshot, or get a notification, I always get those annoying sounds, so I mute system sounds. After closing Volume Mixer, System Sounds unmute themselves and also maxes out its volume once again. I tried all the troubleshooters, changed settings, did everything I thought of. Even the online chat support couldn't help me out. The only thing they advised me is to reinstall my windows. Unfortunately, it didn't help me either.

So here I am, asking for help on the Reddit. This is my last hope that someone can actually help me out.

Volume Mixer Shows Sound Muting and Unmuting

As of recently I've been experiencing some sound problems. At first it showed my volume unmuting and muting very quickly when I wasn't doing anything. I did some troubleshooting and it told me that "opening audio enhancements might help", and
gives me an option to open or to not open it. I did, and I messed about with it and fixed the problem. However, I am now experiencing the same problem in a different format: the sound keeps muting for a while then unmuting. I tried doing the same thing I did
before to no avail. The normal volume slider didn't show itself muting, so I opened up volume mixer and it showed all my apps muted. I did not do this. I unmuted them all, but Google Chrome seems to keep muting itself back and then unmuting itself, then muting
itself etc. It mutes at 1-2 second intervals. I scoured the internet for solutions, and it seems that many have been experiencing this problem. I've tried uninstalling and re-installing my sound drivers - nothing. Troubleshooting continues to show "opening
audio enchancements might help" and most internet suggestions do not work. What do I do?

It still resets to max volume upon notification, but only when the "App volume and device preferences" window is no longer open. (just like the mixer)

If the "App volume and device preferences" windows stays open, the "system sounds" volume does not max out upon notification.

Hi Ruth,

This issue might have been caused by a misconfigured settings or incompatible driver. For us to unmute the microphone, please follow these steps:

• At the system tray, right-click on the volume icon.
• Select Recording devices.
• On the Sound window, make sure that you are on the Recording tab.
• On the list of recording devices, double-click on your microphone device.
• Properties window will open. Click on Levels tab.
• Increase the Microphone slider to maximum.
• Click the speaker icon next to it to unmute the microphone.
• Click on Apply, and then click on OK to save changes.
