  1. Takes forever to get a login prompt on Windows 10

I am writing this on another computer, as the one in question has been waiting for a login prompt for over 3 hours, even longer than usual.

Why does it take me so long to get a login prompt? This machine is two months old and the only software I loaded onto it is MS Office.

I'm very technical, so pardon my use of beginner language: I click on the pretty picture screen and the picture goes fuzzy. Then the picture comes back after a few minutes and I click again. This can go on for hours, as it has now.

Then the user name appears in the middle of the screen but no login prompt (for password). Finally, after another 15+ minutes, the login prompt finally appears. Then, after entering the password, it takes about 5 minutes to finally get logged in -- if I'm lucky.

I have tried all of the recommended solutions I have seen to date, except reloading the OS because I purchased a one-time download of Office 2016.

Note: Windows 10 on an HP Prodesk 400 G4 with a 6-core i7 and 16 GB of RAM, so there shouldn't be a performance problem.

Hey, I get much better performance with Windows XP on my Pentium III laptop that's 18 years old. This is awful!!!

Once logged in, performance is reasonable.

    :)

  3. No login prompt at login screen

Post #8 “I can login to the computer after restart, but every locking after it causes the problem.”

    http://www.isunshare.com/windows-10/...-computer.html
Check Way 3: Lock computer in Screen Saver Settings.
Step 1: Type lock computer in the search box on taskbar and choose Lock the computer when I leave it alone for a period of time.
Step 2: In the Screen Saver Settings dialog, choose On resume, display logon screen and hit OK.
Is “On resume, display log on screen” checked?

Takes forever to get a login prompt on Windows 10

    Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK
