Windows 10: Task manager problem after preview update KB5044384?

Acer Aspire 3.17 laptop.After installing2024-10 Cumulative Update Preview for Windows 11 Version 24H2 for x64-based Systems KB5044384, my task manger although displaying most information does not display the number of processes that are running. When I go to processes tab from another section of the task manager it briefly flashes the number but then within a second it reverts to 0. I have tried uninstalling task manager back to normal and reinstalling the update problem back. Please see attached screenshot, below, so you will know exactly what I mean. I have also tried running SFC and

another easy way to kill tasks, download and install Winaero Tweaker(free) and theres a setting to add a Kill non responding tasks using the desktop right click menu. When you place your cursor on the desktop anywhere and right click the option is at the top of the list, Very handy and you dont have to go through all those steps and well Winaero Tweaker has alot of cool Windows tweaks. Just posting a different suggestion, Im sure your ok with what was suggested here.

I would suggest you to follow the below steps and check if it helps.

Step 1:

  Press Crtl + alt + Delete key on your keyboard to open task manager.
  
• 
  Cancel the Windows Update task form the task manager.
  

Step 2:

  Run Windows Update Troubleshooter. Click this

Task Manager Locks USB Drives

Hi LuizScruz,

Thank your for the quick response.

I can rule out that the problem relates in an way to Windows Explorer. There is no foreground instance of WE running, and there are no other processes accessing files on the drive as well. Even shutting down WE via the task manager does not release the device. Only closing the task manager helps.

I may reproduce the problem by the following steps:

1. Insert the memory stick (i. e. USB drive) into the USB port.
   
2. Start the task manager.
   
3. Try to eject the drive safely. The error message pops up.
   
4. Close task manager.
   
5. Try to eject the drive safely again. The device is released instantly.
   

Interestingly, you must not reverse steps 1 and 2 to reproduce the error.

I suspect that the problem relates to task manager's monitoring of disk activities.
