Windows 10: Task Scheduler not Working

Hi My problem is that when I attempt to run a task such as the W7 backup or one of my own scripts via Task Scheduler, it doesn't work. I have an external hard drive attached for the backup location. I close my laptop lid and verify that both the laptop and XHD are asleep. I have the task set to run early in the morning. When I check my laptop first thing in the morning, the power is on, the XHD is asleep and the laptop is locked up. I have to perform a hard reset (hold power button for 5 seconds) to get the laptop to be responsive. I then check my event viewer and task scheduler history and see that the task I scheduled didn't run. My hunch is that the computer is trying to access some files but for some reason can't, and after a while it locks up. I don't know for sure. Here is the weird thing. When I run a test on the task scheduler and set it to run a task as described above say 5 minutes after I close the lid, it works perfectly. It seems as if letting it sit over night, it encounters an issue. I have turned my anti-virus off (Eset), turned windows update off (thinking it was interfering somehow) and I still have this problem. I believe I have all the correct options checked for running a task scheduler task: run with highest privileges, allow computer to wake, etc). Any help would be appreciated. Thanks... Steps:-

• Type Task Scheduler on Search bar.
• Click on Task Scheduler Library.
• Select the particular task and right click on it.
• Select End.
