    taskbar at bottom: icons gone and replaced by tiles


    Dear Help


    apologies I am sure this is basic but somehow the look of my windows 10 has changed

    I like my taskbar at bottom full of clickable pinne icons; word, firefox, windows explorer etc

    they have vanished and also the icons in the mainscreen have vanished.

    they are replace by a few tiles for main programs eg firefox and a few I never use.

    whe I open firefox I also can't minimise it - and given have no taskbar icons I can't eg open word at the same time

    what has gone wrong please and how do I revert it :

    System Icons on taskbar

    Hi,

    Thank you for posting on Microsoft Communities.

    Are you referring to the clock system icon on the taskbar?

    If so, I suggest you to follow the steps mentioned below:


    • Click on the search bar on the taskbar.

    • Type system icons.

    • Under Turn System Icons ON or OFF, turn On the Clock and check with the issue.

    Gmail Tile Icon on Taskbar?

    I would suggest using Windows Mail as it is far more secure than other 3rd party apps.
    Simply sync your Gmail account within Windows Mail, create a shortcut for Windows Mail, assign it a 'Gmail' icon if you wish, put the shortcut in a folder in Documents, create a Quick Launch Toolbar of that folder.
    Instant access to your Gmail account.

    Corrupted system files or application may be one of the possible causes why some icons in your Taskbar is missing. To efficiently assist you, kindly answer the following questions:

    • Have you made any recent changes prior to this issue?
    • Does this happen only with the 3 apps you've mention or with other application also?
    • Are you getting any error messages when you tried to click those apps with missing icons in your Taskbar?

    Meanwhile, we suggest that you follow the steps shared by Guru Khan G on this
    thread on how to troubleshoot missing Taskbar icons. This will also help you
    scan for corruption and restore corrupted files/Windows corruptions error.
