Taskbar at top of screen - Some apps' title-bars open UNDERNEATH

First post: hope it's in the right category...

Just as the description states; I am using a Mac-style dock at the bottom of my WinX desktop and therefore have my taskbar located at the top of the screen. I am having an irritating issue from time-to-time, with the title-bars of some programs (or 'apps', as they seem to call them these days...) opening BENEATH the taskbar, making it impossible to get to the minimize, resize, and close buttons without first moving the taskbar to the right or left side of the screen, then moving or resizing the app window to access the buttons, and then moving the taskbar back to the top of the screen.

I am assuming the old XP "Keep Taskbar On Top Of Windows" would work, however some dufus-executive at Msoft apparently somewhere along the way determined this is no longer an attribute that anybody needs, probably since HE doesn't use it, and I cannot find the option anywhere. There used to be a tutorial over at 'Seven Forums' ( http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorial-...le-enable.html ) on how to reactivate it, but the link is now dead. However I still see plenty of requests to bring back the feature along with many people having similar problems to mine.

However, if the 'XP' solution would not work and any of you 'space-age wiz-kids' on this site can help with any solution at all, I would be much obliged and very much appreciative.

And by-the-way, the dock I am using looks beautiful in WinX and I HIGHLY recommend it :: RK Launcher - Download -- sorry, rabbit trail...)

    Thanks!

    :)

    Taskbar issue

Hello, I have just installed windows 10 on my pc and I have some issues with my taskbar. first of all, on peek mode the taskbar does not disappear, instead it stays locked onscreen (this issue remains the same when the bar is both locked and unlocked). secondly,
when I have the solid taskbar setup enabled (my preference), when my windows are set to full screen they expand beyond the top of the task bar and underneath it. This is usually fine but with programs that have controls at the bottom, I cant access them (for
    example Spotify and steam).

    Thanks

When I open any program (Commonly WMP) the menu bar of the program will be hidden behind the taskbar with the rest of the window visible.

*Original Title: Menu Bar going through Taskbar

I recently moved my taskbar to the top of the screen and locked it there, but now when I open any program (Commonly WMP) the menu bar of the program will be hidden behind the taskbar with the rest of the window visible. When this happens I cannot close the
program without Alt+F4 or right clicking the icon in the taskbar, this also means I am unable to re-position the window, maximize and minimize it. (SCREENSHOT:

    TSKBR SCREEN
) I don't want to hide the taskbar, nor do I want it on the bottom.

Taskbar at top of screen - Some apps' title-bars open UNDERNEATH

Hi donehomr, welcome to Ten Forums. I'm a bit confused- Taskbar can be on top of windows. Type taskbar in search click on "customize the taskbar"

Taskbar at top of screen - Some apps' title-bars open UNDERNEATH [IMG]

Change taskbar location on screen click apply and ok. If you mean that some of the modern apps are not locating properly on the screen, that's a different story. Modern apps are still a bit of a work in progress. I would report it to Microsoft using the feedback app found on the start screen. you won't get immediate satisfaction, but if enough people mention it they will fix it.

    John:

Can you see from the attached screen-snips what I am talking about? I don't know how I could have been more clear in my description. I have my Windows 10 taskbar at the top of the screen. There are some programs (or 'apps') that I open (not all of them) that open with their 'title-bar' hidden behind the taskbar, and the only thing I can do is move the taskbar out of the way so I can interact with the title-bar to move the window or click the exit, minimize, or resize buttons. - It has nothing to do with 'modern apps', and I'm not asking how to move my taskbar to the top of the screen, it's already there.

If you know about this singular issue, then I would appreciate your reply; otherwise...

    Thanks.

PS, - I've been in the Windows 10 Insider Program for well over a year, and have complained about this several times to no avail. I'm hoping there might be a 'space-age wiz kid' out there who may be aware of a registry tweak or perhaps a Power Shell command that would deal with this. Thanks again...

Autohide the taskbar when you use those apps.

Thanks for the suggestion... uh, no.

Does anybody else have anything that actually took some thought?

Taskbar at top of screen - Some apps' title-bars open UNDERNEATH

I only get it with apps that were previously using the space the taskbar was going to use before it was moved to the top. For example with HWMonitor put it to the top of screen when task bar is at bottom:

Taskbar at top of screen - Some apps' title-bars open UNDERNEATH [IMG]

Close app and then move taskbar to top

Taskbar at top of screen - Some apps' title-bars open UNDERNEATH [IMG]

Open HWMonitor and it remembers its old position (the top is hidden under the taskbar)

Taskbar at top of screen - Some apps' title-bars open UNDERNEATH [IMG]

Resize (here I just made it narrower) and the top jumps so it is no longer under the taskbar and will not go under it again.

So perhaps moving the taskbar like you are is perpetuating the problem.

Try making your app not full screen and in the middle of the screen. Close it then move taskbar to top. Then open your app again.

Interestingly the taskbar properties box goes over the taskbar if taskbar is at the top and under it if the taskbar is at the bottom but that is another story...

Just use the mouse cursor to very slightly expand/resize the window of the app, and it will fix itself. You will have to repeat it every time you open the app. Have not seen any other solutions. I'm not sure how much " thought" this suggestion took.

Since this is only occurring on a few programs I'm pretty much resolved to using your suggestion "Snakeyes," and will mark your reply as the solution. - When I slightly resized the window (by dragging one of the sides or bottom corners slightly) the title bar popped below the taskbar and your suggestion worked perfectly. So apparently you put just the right amount of "thought" into this workaround! *Smile

Although this issue is not solved, it does have a viable workaround that I can live with, and I want to thank everyone for your suggestions. If anybody learns of an absolute 'fix,' please let me know...

    Thanks! *Wink

I set up my desktop the same as you - with the task bar at the top. this make more sense to me since program menus are also usually also at the top. I suspect that uncle Bill started putting it at the bottom as part of a patent infringement settlement with Apple or to avoid a patent suit. be that as it may, with Windows 7, I could use an old Windows XP program called Shove-ti. However, I have not been able to get it to work under windows 10, so I have resorted to using Alt-Space bar to open the dialog in the upper left corner of the window. I then select Move with my arrow keys and move the windows slightly with an arrow key. After moving the window slightly, the mouse gets activated and I can drag the offending window with my mouse. I AGREE - TOTALLY FRUSTRATING, AT TIMES. Hope this helps.

    Hi guys,

I was tweaking to get the best results, because I wanted my Windows 10 to be more like my macOS desktop too. This is what I got:

    1. Arrangements of my 3-monitor setup:

Taskbar at top of screen - Some apps' title-bars open UNDERNEATH [IMG]

    2. The looks in a 3-screen capture:

    - left top = Windows 10 in VM
    - right top and bottom = macOS 10.10.5

Taskbar at top of screen - Some apps' title-bars open UNDERNEATH [IMG]

    3. Tweak for applications that won't auto adjust to the taskbar position at the top. Manually set this (only needed
    once)

Well, I don't know how to prevent windows from opening in this obscured position, but there should be an easier way for pulling them from under the Taskbar. For example, you can activate the offending window, press Alt+Space (to open system menu), hit M (for Move), then use arrow keys to relocate the window to a new location and hit Enter. That way you won't have to jump through the hoops of reassigning the Taskbar to another edge of the screen.

Thanks AndreyT for your reply. I tested my tweak with only those few apps having this issue. Instead of using the move option, I gave those windows a fixed position (see post #10). Now those program-windows will never start 'under' the taskbar. I'm happy with the result.

    Cheers
