  1. Taskbar crashes if desktop left on overnight

    Hello,

I have a Windows 10 desktop computer that has been having taskbar issues for about a year, and I finally had the idea to ask for assistance here.

Just for context, I leave my computer on overnight for days at a time without restarting it or shutting it down. The problem is, every once in a while when I check on the computer the next day, the taskbar says that I have no internet connection. This is odd because I never disconnect from internet. When I click the 'no network connection' icon on the taskbar, it brings up the little window that should show me all the available connections. It loads for a bit, but then the window collapses and shows no connections. The three buttons, 'wifi,' 'airplane mode,' and 'mobile hotspot' cease to function. When I try to access settings via the start button on the taskbar, it opens and gets stuck before it shows the main menu. Sometimes when this happens, the start button won't even work, as well as the search button on the taskbar beside it. With all other options gone, I restart or shut down the desktop either by accessing the start menu or by right-clicking the start button if the start button isn't functioning. However, when the computer restarts or shuts down, it gets stuck at the loading screen that says 'restarting' or 'shutting down.' It doesn't go anywhere from there, even after several minutes, so I end up holding down the power button on the desktop and force-quitting the machine. When I turn the machine back on, the OS works perfectly.

I know this is a lot, but is there any fix to this problem, or is this just a bug that has to be repaired in a Windows update some day?

    Thanks,

    Kadin

    :)

  3. Desktop and Taskbar not working properly

    Hi Ashtyn,

It seems that your laptop is in tablet mode. For us to verify this, let's look into the settings and switch to desktop mode. Follow these steps:

    • Open Settings and click System.
    • In the left pane, click Tablet mode.
    • Under Tablet mode, set the When I sign in option to
      Use desktop mode.

Once done, check if the start menu is closed and if the programs you have opened appear in the taskbar.

Let us know how it goes so we can further assist you.

    Regards.

Taskbar crashes if desktop left on overnight

    all games crash!

    I suggest you run rthdribl > http://www.daionet.gr.jp/~masa/archives/rthdribl_1_2.zip
Increase the window size step by step and watch your vga temps permanently.
    What happens?
If it crashes, run at stock speeds as suggested before and retry.

P.S.: When your system locks, does the display signal turn off after a time?
Stuttering sound or no sound at all when freezing?
What X1800XT model do you own exactly?
