Windows 10: Taskbar on 2nd monitor auto-fitting application 'tabs' - how do I stop this?

Hi All! Thanks in advance for the help.


I'm using a monitor with my laptop, and I mostly work on the monitor. But just started doing something funky with the tabs for open applications.


First lets look at what I consider to be the old/normal behavior.


This is what it looks like on my laptop screen, and what my monitor used to look like:




When I close one of the presentations, it looks like this:

Notice how the tabs are the same size. Both images show a lot of space on the right hand side.

Compare this to my monitor, which looks like this with the two presentations open.



Note how much more of the text is visible on each tab also, and how they take up the whole space.


Then when I close one of the presentations, it looks like this:



Notice now how the tabs are even wider, much more of the text can be seen etc. They seem to be autofitting to the space.


I can't understand what happening I've played with a lot of the setting, and nothing seems to fix this. I just want my monitor taskbar to behave in the same manner as my laptop taskbar. I've tried changing which is the primary display, using small icons, changing the height of the task bar. None of it seems to work.

Any ideas!

How to auto-hide taskbar of the second monitor keeping unhide in the primary monitor?

Hi,

I suggest you to follow the steps below to auto-hide taskbar on second monitor and check if it helps:

Steps:

1. Right click on the taskbar and select
Properties.

2. In the Taskbar tab under
Multiple displays, Uncheck the Show taskbar on all displays box.

3. Click on Apply
and Ok.

This will display the taskbar only on the primary monitor.

Please let us know which build are you currently in?

If you are in build number: 14342, I suggest you to follow the steps below to
hide taskbar on second monitor and check if it helps:

• 
  Right click on the Taskbar and Go to
  settings.
  
• 
  Click on the taskbar option.
  
• 
  Under Multiple displays you can turn off the option for
  Show taskbar on all displays.

thanks Mohan. However, i wish to have both screens with task bar:

Main Screen, taskbar is NOT hide.

2nd screen will auto HIDE so it will not occupy my screen space.

I tried your suggestion, then the 2nd screen will not have taskbar at all.

alternatively, is there a way to make 2nd screen taskbar to NOT always on top?
