Windows 10: Taskbar pinned apps moving

I just got a new computer running Win10 build 1909, and my old computer was running 1709. In 1709 my pinned apps would stay in the order they were pinned. I found this useful as I would use the keyboard shortcuts to open the first 3 pinned apps i.e:

• Win+1 to open Sticky Notes
• Win+2 to open Outlook
• Win+3 to open Firefox

Now in 1909 the order of the apps in the Taskbar keeps changing so when I press Win+1 to open Sticky notes, sometimes it opens Sticky notes, sometimes it opens a different app. This new behaviour is incredibly frustrating.

Can anyone help me out? Is this a bug? Is there a way to have those keyboard shortcuts consistently open the same app?

Moving the taskbar

Hi Kim,

You can customize your taskbar to pin your favorite apps to it, move it to where you want to display on your screen, and specify how taskbar buttons group together when you have more than one window open. To address your question, we suggest
that you follow these steps on how to move your taskbar to a different location on the screen:

• Open Settings and choose Personalization.
• Select Taskbar.
• Under Taskbar location on the screen, click the drop-down menu and select
  Bottom.

Pin Microsoft Edge to Taskbar

Hi,

It's possible that you're not able to pin Edge to the taskbar due to some corrupted system files. We'd like to learn more about your concern so that we could provide the proper resolution. We just have a few questions for you:

• Which build version of Windows 10 is currently on your computer? To check, click
  Start, type winver, and press Enter.
• Does this only happen to Edge? Have you tried pinning other apps to the taskbar?
• What are all of the troubleshooting steps that you've done? Please list all of them so that we could move on to the next steps.

 

Query re pinning and unpinning apps to taskbar

Pinning an app to taskbar does not remove it from Start all apps list. It list in Start under letter M as in Microsoft Edge, you should find it there even when it is pinned to taskbar.
