    Taskbar Toolbar Renders TOO SLOW

    Okay, indexing is done.

Still have the original issue though. So the search continues.

    Okay, done.

It didn't solve the problem, but I FINALLY figured out the 'source' of the system issues.

And I'm so frustrated that none of the Event Log stuff or other things we did exposed this as the problem.

The ONLY reason I figured it out is because I popped open the Performance Monitor to see if I could catch something as I clicked on that toolbar link and noticed Drive E: listed.

This was the same issue I addressed the other day. Drive E:!!!

This is coming from my Epson R320 Printer storage.

So I unplugged my printer from the USB port and viola!

    The toolbar hangup is gone!

Now this really does not fix the issue, only points to the source.

I have to plug my printer back in eventually.

So I guess I should Mark as Solved this thread and start a new one in the Hardware area.

I find it takes too long too to populate the toolbar pop-up menu. However, I use the desktop toolbar which had quite a lot of menu entries, so I can understand why it might take some time to generate.

Here's a way to have almost instant access to the items in the toolbar. It depends on selecting the Icon for the Item, so make sure you have a recognizable icon for each item.

Firstly, I rearrange the toolbar menu items so that the items I am most likely to use are at the top and those I only need rarely are at the bottom,by dragging them to the position in the menu that I want.

See this QuickLaunch Toolbar Tutorial - it works the same for all toolbars: Add or Remove Quick Launch toolbar in Windows 10 Windows 10 Customization Tutorials option one #5 for images of this:

Unlock the taskbar to show the || separator, right-click on the separator when the cursor changes to ↔ and deselect show text and then deselect show title in the taskbar menu (which does not seem slow at all, when it pops up). Then click and slide the separator to the left, and all the icons for the toolbar items appear. Slide all the way to the right, and only the first item icon is visible. Single click and the item is opened.

    Taskbar Toolbar Renders TOO SLOW

Because my file list is quite small, it normally popped right up without any delay. So I've never had any problems with waiting before.

But as noted in my previous post, the culprit was my printer. Specifically, the Flash storage part of the printer where you can pop in those small flash cards.

And a few moments ago, I figured out how to get it from slowing my system down and no longer delaying my toolbar popups.

The drive letter it assigned was E:

This puts it between my functional drives D: and F:

Apparently, Windows must be scanning all the drives from C: to F: when accessing the folder via the toolbar link. When it comes to E: (and I'm speculating here because I don't really know), it must be delaying because it doesn't see a drive or storage card, then proceeds to F:.

To test this theory, I changed my drive E: for the printer to Z:.

Now it zips along nicely without any delays.
