Windows 10: "The application has failed to start because its side by side configuration is incorrect"...

    "The application has failed to start because its side by side configuration is incorrect"...


    I typed "Outlook" into my search box under the start menu? And I got some kind of error about the registry, which I clicked X on without giving it much thought I just figured it meant the program wasn't going to load, and then the youtube video I was watching froze...and after eventually exiting out of Chrome, I couldn't restart it again, just receiving the above error message when trying. And any program, for that matter...my pc wouldn't do anything. I was able to shut it down, but Windows was unable to load a few times in a row, was able to do a system restore and get it back, but all from typing "outlook" in a search box?


    And its happened before, when doing something equally inane...was trying to configure some setting on my display adapter or some such, my PC just quit being functional, was stuck in a reset loop for some time before I was able to use System Restore.


    This is a pretty clean install of Windows 10, I've not had it for much longer than six months and it only really facilitates my playing of various games.


    The steps I've seen given as advice on how to solve this look pretty dang intricate...is there possibly any kind of "Just make sure not to ever do THIS" advice? I don't grasp the fundamentals of what exactly is happening, but sure would like to. Just to be able to avoid the scare here.
