Windows 10: The audio quality on my airpods is terrible and I've tried everything to fix it

My laptop runs windows 11 and I've connected my Airpods to it. These are 1st generation airpods. This has automatically set them up as a hands free device and whenever I disable handsfree telephony all audio stops working. Also, when I go into settings where I should be able to select a headphones option, there is only the headset option and the headphones option is disabled. I'm unsure what to do to fix the sound quality of my Airpods. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

My airpods connect to my hp laptop but then I can not make them the default output and input source for audio.

I tried the steps that you listed. I have not been able to get audio on the airpods yet, so it has happened every time I have tried to switch audio to airpods consistently for the past week since getting the laptop.

Please let me know if there are any other steps I can take to resolve the issue.

Bluetooth Sound Quality is Terrible

lenovo support forums I've fixed my problem!

• Right click the speaker icon in the system tray by the clock
  
• • Click 'Playback devices'
• Change the default to the 'headphones'

the lenovo support link has screen shots, fyi.

"Some bluetooth devices have
2 modes: Regular listening device and a "handsfree" mode where you can use both the audio and microphone. If you somehow got switched to
handsfree mode, then the audio quality will be much worse since some of the
bluetooth bandwidth will be taken up for the microphone."

 

Airpods connected but no sound

THIS WORKED FOR ME! The audio quality however is terrible for me, is it the same for you? Compared to any other headset or speaker connected to my PC, the AirPods quality is abysmal. It works and I'm happy that something is coming out of em. Hope anyone who has them working can respond and thanks in advance.
