Windows 10: The last Windows Security Update (KB4592449) uninstalled my active antivirus program

Hello everyone, it is the first time that I encounter this problem with an Windows update, just like the title says, the last update uninstalled my antivirus completely, I use Bitdefender for reference. That wouldn't be such a big problem if I could install it again, but whenever I try to install it, a small window pops up I click Run and then nothing happens, I've tried restarting my pc and trying again a couple of times but no result.... Does anyone else encountered this problem or knows any way to solve it?

Suggest me best total security/antivirus for windows 7

I don't think many, if any, will agree with me here, but I have finally settled on the best antivirus program I've found: CSA. Common Sense Antimalware.

No matter which one you get, everyone single security program will fail to catch malicious software at some point, or at least be unable to remove something it finds. So at some point, you're probably going to take some manual steps to remove it, just like you would if you had none. And I recommend reinstalling Windows regularly anyway. So the difference between having security software and not having it, for the malicious software that is really problematic, is that with the security software installed, you run into more conflicts and system slowdown, and have to do regular updates.

Instead of counting on something always running in the background, I suggest thinking smart on the sites you visit and the files you download. Google everything unfamiliar or even slightly suspicious before accessing it in any way. Don't even click on ads; Google the product being advertised first. Porn is the worst; if you wanna look at it, do so on well-known, reputable sites.

I've been running "CSA" instead of an actual antivirus program for two years now. They've been the most malware-free years of my computing life.

 

definition update for windows denfender antivirus

Hi mknic,
I have literally just installed the definition update KB2267602 without any problem. I suggest as a first step checking all the Windows Defender settings to make sure they all have the 'green ticks' in each section.






ps. The only reason the 'Family Options' is not ticked is because I am the only user on my computer.

I also would suggest running the 'Troubleshoot' feature in the Update & Security settings which has a section dealing with update problems.

 

Need an Antivirus Program

You can try Microsoft Security Essentials. If it is too slow, try Avira Antivirus. Microsoft Security Essentials covers antivirus and antispyware and it does work very well. It's caught every instance of malware trying to get on my computer since I've been using it. You never have to worry about ads or nag screens and you get definition updates as well as full program updates when they're available, unlike most other programs that only offer definition updates.
