    Hi, I just upgraded my PC from Windows 32 bit to 64 bit.

    I have a few partitions on my hard drive. I followed the online instruction and created a WindowsImageBackup which is now stored on an external hard drive. The upgrade process was fine and smooth. I deleted the current 32bit Win 10 Drive C and installed the new Win 10 64bit on it.


    But now I need to go back coz I thought those programs from the previous will automatically install on the new 64bit. I tried to do system image recovery. But it says, "The selected system image cannot be restored in the recovery environment.""

    Can anyone help me please?

    I have finally managed to sort my Windows 10 installation out after having error code 0xc000021a however now I'm having trouble trying to restore my system image from an external hard drive it says (the selected system image cannot be restored in this recovery
    environment) , can anyone help please

    Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community forums.



    • Are you able to boot into the system?
    • How are you trying to restore the system image?
    • Is the version of your system image identical to the architecture of Windows installed?


    Note: A
    32-bit version of system image cannot be restored on a 64-bit
    Windows operating system.



    This error usually occurs if a 32-bit version of system image is tried to be accessed on a
    64-bit Windows environment. The reason being, device drivers designed for the
    32-bit version of Windows won’t work on computers running
    64    -bit version of Windows. I suggest you to check if the architecture of Windows and the system image are identical. If the issue is happening on an identical version of Windows, respond to us with the answers to the questions above.
