Windows 10: The system administrator has set policies to prevent this installation

I bought a new Lenovo laptop just last week. I have started college this week and need to install a program from the college to attend webinars as part of the course. When I first downloaded the program, it was blocked by Smart Screen, which I was able to disable with some research. Now when I click on the downloaded file, I get the above message 'The system administrator has set policies to prevent this installation'.


This is quite frustrating. None of my colleagues are having trouble with installing this programme, and it installed on my home computed (also a Lenovo, windows 10) no problem. I need to be able to attend classes on my laptop.


I have tried changing a number of things in my LOCAL SECURITY POLICY but nothing worked. I have tried restarting in SAFE MODE with no success. There is no option to run the file as administrator.


Please help.

Window 10 will not allow me to install programs. "System administrator has set policies to prevent this installation."

When the message "The system administrator has set policies to prevent this installation" displays, a particular
Local Security Policy setting may be preventing you from running installations involving MSI files.

Try the steps below and check if it helps.

Step 1:

Run the software setup file as an administrator and check if it helps.

a. Right click on the setup file of the software that you are trying to install.

b. Select “Run as administrator”.

Step 2:

a. Click Start, type "Local Security Policy" (without quotes) and press enter.

b. Click on Software Restriction Policies.

c. In the right pane, double click on the "enforcement".

d. Select “All users except local administrators”.

e. Click Ok and restart the computer and check if the issue is fixed.
