    Hi guys, I have trouble shutting down my laptop, there is no power options available and when I wanted to open the task manager, it says it has been disabled by administrator.... The thing is I am using the administrator and I am the administrator... Furthermore, the option to shut down by using ALT+F4 has also been disabled.. This problem just happened recently..

    Two Problems- "There are currently no power options available" and I Can't Open Task Manager

    So, I have two major problems and I'm not sure how to fix them. Windows 10, Dell machine.

    The first is that "there are currently no power options available." I can't restart, shut down or put my laptop into sleep without forcibly shutting it off.

    I've tried fixes 1 and 2
    listed here
    , but I'm not sure if continuing further will fix it or is a good idea.

    The second issue is that I can't open Task Manager without "administrator privileges"

    Normally I could crtl + alt + dlt and open it from there, but now my only option is "Lock"

    So when I tried to open task manager from the windows search bar, I got the message that I must have "administrator privileges"

    I just now noticed both of these problems today, and I am not sure when they first started (if not today).

    I'm also curious, what is the source of these problems? Is it an update? An issue with my microsoft account?

    Thank you.

    There are currently no power options available

    Hi MR, welcome to the Microsoft community, my name is Luiz Cruz, Microsoft's independent consultant, and I would be happy to help you.

    I understand that your computer is not shutting down completely. To solve this problem I suggest that you perform the steps below:

    Step 1:

    Change the function of the off button. To do this, follow the steps outlined below:

    1. On the Desktop, simultaneously press the Windows + R keys to open Run;

    2. At Run, type "powercfg.cpl" and click Ok, to open the Power Options;

    3. Click on Choose the function of the power button, change the item When I press the power button to Off;

    4. Click Save Changes.

    Step 2:

    Disable third party software and services from system startup. They may be running in the background, making it difficult to shut down the computer. For more information, the article below:

    How to perform a simple boot in Windows.

    Step 3:

    Disable quick system startup. To do this, perform the steps below:

    1. On the Desktop, simultaneously press the Windows + X keys, then click on Power Options;

    2. Under Power Options, click Choose the power button function;

    3. Then click on Change settings not currently available;

    4. Deselect the Turn on quick start (recommended) item, click Save changes.

    If the answer helped in any way, please mark it as an answer, if your question has not been solved, please post again.

    I hope I helped, even more!

  4. There are currently no power options available & Task Manager disabled by administrator

    Windows 10 : There are currently no power options available

    I currently have two users here in the office with Windows 10: There are currently no power options available error.

    I have tried multiple things and none seem to work. Below are the troubleshooting steps i have done so far.

    • Changed power plan (both to a different preset and to a new custom plan).
    • Ran gpedit.msc and ensured User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Start Menu and Taskbar was not enabled.
    • Ran regedit and created a registry value for NoClose with the value 0 at HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer.
    • Ran sfc /scannow from an admin command prompt; no issues found.
    • Ran powercfg –restoredefaultschemes from an admin command prompt.
    • Ran Policy Editor and located the remove shut down. Enabled it and disabled it. Did not work
    • System restored it back before the problem started to happen but still getting same result.
    • Took the surface pro tablet off from the domain and logged in as a local administrator. Still got the same result even on a workgroup with administrator logged in.
    • Ran Any current updates, No updates were available.
    • Ran the laptop in safe mode and still same issue, also ran sfc /scanow and still did not find any issues.
    • Ran troubleshoot power options. Did not find any errors.

    One user is using a brand new Microsoft windows 10 surface pro, the other user is using windows 10 pro dell laptop.

    There have no hardware changes to any of the laptops and there have been no installation of any other software.

    The power options out of nowhere just didn't show anymore.

    The only workaround is pushing control+alt+del.
