Windows 10: There's a temporary problem with the service. Please try again. If you continue to get this...

I have Windows 10 installed as a virtual machine on a Mac and use my Outlook account to access this. Unfortunately, I have forgotten my Outlook password and have been trying my best to reset my password.

1. I have enabled 2FA and the Authenticator app code does not work for password reset at any stage. The error message is: "That code didn't work. Check the code and try again". However, login into Skype works well via the Authenticator app (i.e., without password).

2. If I enter the password reset code received from my backup registered e-mail first, the second code received by SMS does not work (i.e., That code didn't work. Check the code and try again). And the other way too, if I enter the password reset code received by SMS, the second code received by e-mail does not work (i.e., That code didn't work. Check the code and try again).

3. I then used the 25 character recovery code to replace my security info after 30 days. After the waiting period, I did receive an e-mail to reset my password, but only received the following error message:

There's a temporary problem with the service. Please try again. If you continue to get this message, try again later.


Off and on I do go back and try again, but am always greeted with the "...try again later" message. I have tried clearing browser cache and other steps prescribed in a similar earlier thread. I have spoken to Microsft Support technical reps and am eventually lead down the same path above, sometime via a virtual assistant. Even one time I was asked to purchase an MSA 5-Pack to get professional paid support (what, wait, pay to reset my password?)


Please kindly advice what I can do from here as I cannot access my Windows 10 machine and/or use any Microsoft services linked to my Outlook account for a long time now.


Any advice? 60-days now and getting increasingly frustrating.

This did not work.

I am STILL receiving the following error when attempting to reset:

• There is a temporary problem with the service. Please try again.If you continue to get this message, try again later.

The suggestions so far have not helped.

Unfortunately this does not assist.

I have followed Steps 1, 2, 3. When I get to Step 4, I select the Send a code to my phone option (Call ** ******47), I then insert the last four digits of the phone number as requested and I receive the following error:

• There's a temporary problem with the service. Please try again. If you continue to get this message, try again later.

Please advise.

I am keen to resolve this issue as the answer provided does not resolve.

Can you please advise how I can resolve this issue to reset or recover the password such that we can log into Windows???
