Well, I managed to reinstall Windows Desktop Gadgets after brutally removing the Daemon tools, and it seems like it is working right now. So the only thing to manage is #GetBackMyStartMenu *Biggrin

My update took a very long time (i7 8GB ram) but installed with no trouble. It changed a bunch of settings which I was able to redo.

I had Windows 10 set so that on bootup it went directly to the login screen (where you enter the password), skipping the Windows splash screen that appears first. The anniversary update restored that splashscreen and I forgot how I had gotten rid of it. Anyone know how?

    A little research tells you
    a. You can't now disable the lock screen you see on restart.
Windows 10 Pro Anniversary Update tweaked to stop you disabling app promos • The Register
    b. But on the lock screen you get Cortana and Groove (music). Hmm.. not actually seen this..yet.. although the setting is enabled..

Made a backup before installing the update.
Have my share of small problems too. Sometimes at the logon screen when I click on a user I want to logon with, before being able to type in the password he goes to a blue screen with a rotating cursor (the dots circle). It takes forever and I have to reset te system. It happens sometimes, sometimes not.

Also in the startscreen, my icon from firefox became just huge. Not really the end of the world but not pretty either.

Also, I have a games account with mostly games from gog.com. After updating almost all my shortcuts in my startmenu disappeared. Had to add them manually again.

Yes, start screen tiles were mostly cleared. Which is a less important reason for me not relying on MS's start menu- which should surely be sthg you just use conveniently without thinking about - but isn't.

Just tried pinning FF to it.. looks ok.

I really appreciate all your expertise and help. I just didn't want you to think I didn't try to research the answer. In my defense, I spent at least 4+ hours trying to find an answer and didn't succeed. (For example, research is how I found that I needed to disconnect wifi for the downloaded AU to finally succeed on my pc).

But the web is a big place with a lot of outdated info. Search results depend on using the correct search terms and I didn't think of the ones you mentioned. So it's only after a lengthy frustration that I asked. I also scanned the tenforums tutorials. I do appreciate all the time and help you provide and have learned a lot from you.

(still cannot disable Cortana after innumerable hours searching the web and don't know why your excellent reg file to do it doesn't actually modify my registry).

    Thanks for responding.
So if I understand correctly? You pinned FF to it and don't have this huge icon?

Reinstalled firefox x86 (version 48.0) and the problem remained. After installing 64 bits, the problem is resolved. Strange.

Well, the problem is solved for me.

The logon screen problem is more serious. When I click on a user I want to logon with, before being able to type in the password he goes to a blue screen with a rotating cursor (the dots circle). It takes forever and I have to reset te system.
I said before, that it happens sometimes but actually it happens a lot. And also after resetting it is not always solved.
Maybe I should just restore my backup for now. Gives me headaches...

Hi, I lost my clock in the task bar. It showed day, date and time with seconds. I was able to use both TClockEx and StoicJoker in compatibility mode before the update but none of them work now. When it comes to TClockEx the system says that it loads too slow. Whatever that means.

I have seen that those who want a clock on the desktop have a solution in 8Gadget programs but does anyone know of a clock for the taskbar with seconds and all that I can look for now? Or is there some kind of tweak I can apply for to get the old ones, I already have, to work again? Have searched the net to no avail. *Sad

    Thanks in advance!
