Windows 10: Third party software installation

My pc was working okay for alomost a year with WIndows 10 but now I have a problem on both my laptop and desktop with software not loading.
I have tried loading some old software that I already have running and get the same error message

required priviledge is not held by the client.
Is there some new Microsoft update that is causing this?

I tried altering the UAC but this does nothing.

I tried loading Civilization which used to work but the setup progame failed, with the error
0x80040702
Failed to load DSETUP DLL

Any suggestions?

I'm not a mac person so I can't help you out dittee. Isn't there a program that allows you to run Windows on a mac? I would consider that or if you have access to a windows PC you can run the install file then locate and copy the cab file to transfer
to your device. Thgen you can click on the cab and it will install.

oh hmm. well the thing is. i'm using a mac. and im using a third party software to sync the files to the device. i can't install the .exe file on my desktop coz it doesn't work. any ideas on what i can do?

 

Before attempting any repairs, please create a disk image or at least a Win 10 System Image written to external storage as a means of recovery should sthg go wrong. (You should use disk imaging routinely anyway- a good way to recover from sthg like this).

This offers a number of permissions repairs. Use only the ones you need.

 

Thanks for the download link but I get the same message for this software so can't run it. The PC was working up to couple of days ago. I tried restoring to last week but it failed that too.
I went into the Microsoft pages first and checked my HDD permissions but they seem okay, I log on as administrator and have full rights at access all files and folders with read write permissions.
Changing compatibility settings also does no good.
I tried to re install some video editing software that I put on yesterday but it gave the error message quoted, as did whatsapp but the HDD controler reinstalled without a problem, as did Tor and a download manager, zip and Skype, not sure why some software installs and others doesn't
