Windows 10: This might take several minutes

I booted my hp laptop and it came up with a blank screen. Thought maybe there was an issue with my machine because I use an external docking station/monitor. It rebooted I got login screen. After login in, I am getting “hi” followed by “we’ve got some updates for your pc”, “this might take several minutes”. Has been running for an hour. I know there was a recent update that was pushed by windows 10 but never had an issue installing any updates before.


If new update is occuring why no progress bar or something to know what it is doing instead of this message looping all over again. Now have no idea what this is doing or whether it has failed and these messages are looping. My fan seems to be running on my machine so think hard drive is running.


how long does this normally take? Is the May 2019 update pretty large?

2. Setup file history to autosave frequently - the shortest period is 5 mins
3. Install Macrium Reflect Free and configure it to do a daily incremental system backup
