My RCA 11.6" tablet came with Windows 10 Retail 10240 and I've since set it for the Insider Program. Everything's working fine on it.

They're trying their best to make them throw a way's. My newest laptops are the same way. One of my old HP laptops not only has easy access to the HDD, It's setup so I could install a second HDD.

My laptop is a Acer Aspire V5. It came with Win 8. It's my first computer that has touch screen. Not including my phones. *Smile

It's a shame they decided to go that route. Profit before customer satisfaction.

Yep, because there's no way I'll send it in for upgrade. I took it to my local tech shop and he told me it would cost about $60 to install a new SSD that I already have! So, that's out too.

So now I guess I'll have to wait until I get the nerve to go into the guts of it or it's time to buy a new one. HP just sealed its fate with me.

Which model do you have? I have new Hp (for about half a year), but is easy serviceable. Even has M2 slot for SSD *Smile

You have quite a collection there *Smile

Is this one of those, where one must disassemble complete bottom to get into?

    Yup, sure is!

Edit: Actually, I'm down to one desktop, one laptop, one Intel tablet, and two Android tablets. I sold one laptop and another one died.

I don't really use the 'droids much and neither do I use the Windows tab very much.

Yeah, i know how it looks like. I'm spending most of my time (home and works) in front of bigger screens and old PCs.

Checked that HP 17z on notebookchek site, and user really can't access HD or memory. What a shame, as it looks like nice laptop.

Edit: on the other side, I'm quite happy with my HP Probook. It wasn't much more expensive.

  12. I have a probook and it is easy to take the bottom cover off... just open a lock switch and the bottom cover slides right off

It can be upgraded; the instructions show it to be a little complicated, but with the schematic, it's doable. I just have to get the courage to go for it. *Smile

I will know better next time I upgrade.

Yea, just had a newish HP laptop here a couple of days ago and noticed no separate 'doors' for HDD and RAM. Guess it is just a matter of getting the courage to remove the whole bottom cover.

  15. Wynona Win User
Ohhhhhh, it's more than just the whole bottom cover! First, about 15 screws from the bottom, then the DVD drive. Turn it over and gently lift up the top cover. Gently remove three cables and then finish removing the top.

Once all that's done, somehow get to the hard drive and RAM. I have read how to do that, but it's been awhile.

IIRC, you have to remove around 75 screws and keep them all ID'd and labelled so you can put things all back together the right way.

Thankfully, the instructions/schematics are well written. Because I already know I'm gonna do it, just not exactly when.
