    Does the Windows Defender Security Center identify that third party Firewalls are installed and running?

    Windows Defender Security Center reflect results from Security and Maintenance Settings and when it is able to detect a firewall and show it is on, then it should show firewall is okay.

    In your case, this is not normal behavior and I suggest report this through Feedback Hub.

    windows defender & security center services keep turning off


    Are you running any other AV or did you have one running in the past? If you didn't use an uninstaller for the AV, then the remnants of it could be causing the problem. Normally any time you install an AV it disables Defender by default.

    If you are getting any error codes please list those, that will be helpful in helping you.

    As torre suggested, might be a good idea to do a reset or even a reinstall.

    Today my free Verizon Internet Security suite ran out. I turned on Windows Defender. A notification about virus protection appeared in action center. A red circle with a white x in center of it with the words virus protection. My firewall is not not on.
    A popular keeps popping up with an x and virus protection.

    What should I do. I'm afraid to use the computer.
