  1. Transfering Windows Key after Hardware Change

Hello, I am trying to transfer a windows 10 education key that was provided by my university from a computer that no longer works to a new computer I am now using, and have a fresh install of win10 education on. I have pulled that key off of the original hard drive it was on, however when I attempted to enter that key into the new computer it gives me this error :

"We can't activate Windows on this device because you don't have a valid digital license or key. If you think you do have a valid license or key, select troubleshoot. Error code: 0x803Fa067."

When I run the troubleshooter and select "I changed my hardware on this device recently" it only lists my previous computer, and does not give me the option to choose my new device. It says "if you are not seeing your device, then you must be signed in with the same Microsoft account you linked to the Windows 10 digital license on this account. "

However, I am logged into my Microsoft account, and when I check here :

    https://account.microsoft.com/devices?fref=home.banner.devices

I can see all devices connected to that account including my new current computer and my old computer.

What is happening?? How can I activate my new computer?

    :)

Unable to activate Windows after hardware change

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

Usually the error code 0xC004F213 comes when there is a hardware change done on the computer (like Motherboard or Hard drive). The Windows license is associated with the device hardware. If there is any significant hardware changes, such as replacing
motherboard or hard drive, Windows won’t be able to recognize the license.

I suggest you to try the troubleshooting steps from the article
Reactivating Windows 10 after a hardware change
and see if Windows gets activated.

If you are using an OEM computer that came with Windows 7, and the motherboard has not been changed, then you can follow the steps to retrieve the product key that came with your OEM computer. To retrieve the product key follow the steps mentioned
    below:

    1. Type Command prompt in the search bar, that is on the taskbar.
    2. Right click on Command prompt icon and select Run as administrator.
    3. Type the command and press on Enter: wmic path SoftwareLicensingService get OA3xOriginalProductKey
    4. You will find the product key.

    Hope it helps.

Please reply with the status of the issue, we will be glad to help you further.

Is the free upgarde transferable? I think not.

    Hi Kari,
Can you confirm that the computer at step 5 (I numbered your list *Wink ) had never had an activated Insider build (especially not 10240)?

I'm wondering if it was possible that the second machine activated because the activation servers recognised the hardware from an earlier activation, and not because of the method you used to transfer?
