Windows 10: Transferring 3TB

Hi,
I use windows 10 and I have a folder about 3TB (important data), I need to copy it from my PC to my new Laptop (using LAN). I am wondering , data loss will occur while trying to copy the whole folder at once in one folder (my Laptop)? OR just transferring part after part to avoid any crashes?

I don't know why this is so hard to do but I would like to transfer files between a desktop PC running windows 10 pro and a laptop running windows 10 home. I would like to transfer files in both directions. Both computers are on the same home network and are connected wirelessly.

Could some one provide either specific step by step instructions on how to do this (I googled and found a countless list of instructions that don't work)

or a link to a reference.

I don't know if this is possible but it would be nice to see the computer sending the desired file in the explorer file manager of the computer receiving the desired file and then under the computer see a list
of shared files and folders.

Again, this seems like such a reasonable way of sharing files and folders. Shouldn't there be a simple way to do this?

 

3TB disk showing as 1TB


There might be an unallocated space that Windows 10 did not recognized.

You can try various tool to maximize the volume and convert it into GPT e.g. Windows DiskPart:

1. Win+X, choose Command Prompt (Admin)
2. diskpart - to initialize DiskPart
3. list disk - to see all the connected hard drives
4. select disk # - replace the # with the 3TB disk we are focusing at e.g. select disk 3
5. clean - this will delete all partitions or volumes on the selected disk including the hidden etc.
6. convert gpt - convert to GPT

Other tool like GParted also good to try. Burn it into CD or USB, boot the disk tool, select the 3TB disk and see if GParted recognize the whole volume. If it does, just use the Grow/Shrink options to expand the whole 3TB.

 

Secondary 3TB HDD not showing in explorer after W10 Upgrade


Since this disk is a GPT disk so there is a 128MB MSR partition for a non OS GPT disk.
From Admin command, type:

1. diskpart
2. select disk 2
3. select par 2
4. set id=EBD0A0A2-B9E5-4433-87C0-68B6B72699C7 override
5. exit

On step 4, just copy and paste what I had to make sure you get it correctly. Once done, you should be able to see your 3TB disk.

Disk 0 should not be marked as "Active". It's better to also swap the sata cable between 0 and 1
