Windows 10: Transferring Windows 10 License to a different computer

Hello,

I have recently built myself a desktop PC, after spending the last 10-11 years using only laptops. While my last laptop came with Windows Home pre-installed and activated I installed Windows 10 Pro on it and bought a digital license for it in the Microsoft Store. It is now activated on said laptop and the license is linked to my Microsoft account.

Now, after assembling a desktop PC I have installed Windows 10 Pro on it as well and would like to stop using the laptop (clean it out and give it away to a relative) and transfer the license from it to the desktop PC.

I've seen several guides on the topic, mostly the same thing, but still cannot make head or tails of it. Is it possible in my case or do I have to buy a new license? If it is possible, is there a step by step guide on how to do that? Most guides mention a product key, however I cannot find mine, as it was not in the confirmation email that was sent to me after I bought the license.

Any help and/or advice on this matter is greatly appreciated!

i bought the license. My laptop was originally loaded with win 7 and was upgraded free couple of months.

in this case, if i understand you correctly, i can transfer with below steps. Right.?

let me buy my new laptop and try below.

and to my question do you have an update.

does OS upgrades if my activation key is changed.
