Windows 10: Tried to upgrade to Win 10 Pro, but my Product Key did not "take".

After I bought a digital copy of Win 10 Pro, I did the upgrade as suggested here:

However, my Product Key did not "take". Now I'm stuck with an unactivated copy of Pro, and I can't revert, nor am I able to successfully re-register Pro. In the Activation window, the visible part of my Key remains the same as the original Home version not the key I was given with my purchase. I've tried to "Change Product Key" 3 times; the results are always the same: it looks as though it worked, but when I try to activate, I am told that my key the one that partially shows is for Home only.


I'd really like to go Pro, but at this point I'd settle for going back to Home. I did all of this on a brand new laptop, but now I've loaded a lot of my programs on it, and I'm not going to wipe all of that.


Now what?

Win 10 Pro upgrade using Win 8 Pro product key

I just bought a new computer running Win 10 Home. When I went to upgrade to Win 10 Pro using my Win 8 Pro product key from my old computer, the upgrade wouldn't activate.

Now I'm stuck with a bunch of error messages (mainly 0xC004C003) and am being told windows isn't activated. I can't seem to get my activated Win 10 Home back.

I don't have a product key for the Win 10 Home because it came pre-installed. There's no product code recorded on the packaging or labelling on the device.

So:

How do I either

• activate the Win Pro upgrade, or
• Get my activated Win 10 home back?

 

Why was I not asked for a product key when upgrading to Win 10?

According to your spec you have Win 10 Pro, but perhaps that doesn't reflect your PC.

You haven't stated which edition of Win 10 you have on this machine, nor what your Win 10 key is for.

For example, if you already have Win 10 Pro and your key is Win 10 Home, that would be a retrograde step.

Upgrade a Win 10 home OEM to Win 10 Pro OEM with Win 10 Pro OEM Key?

I recently purchased a laptop that has an OEM version of Win 10 Home on it.

I verified this by using : slmgr -dli.

Previously I had purchased an OEM Win 10 Pro Key.

Can I use this OEM Win 10 Pro Key to upgrade the OEM Win 10 Home to the OEM Win 10 Pro.

If so what are the steps to accomplish this?

In addition, I assume that is this is possible, that the current product key will be updated to the new product key?

The reason I am asking this is that it's my understanding that these product keys are tied to the bios on a name brand laptop.
