  1. Trouble accessing accounts on a Windows 10 FTP server

After enabling file/printer sharing, I at least get ping replies from the Win 10 computer, but I'm still not able to log on its FTP accounts. If I use the command-line FTP tool on Windows XP, it says "Connected to host", but I get no login prompt. If I test via Microsoft Edge on the Win 10 computer itself, I get a login prompt, but whenever I try to submit the login/pass, I'm asked to enter user/pass again. Whether I choose "anonymous" or "basic" when configuring the FTP server ostensibly makes no difference to the outcome. If I test using the Win 10 command-line, I seem to get connected to the host, but at the "User:" prompt, I get an error message when I enter the username.

What's likely going on here? Yes, I have configured the Win 10 firewall to allow FTP. I'm thinking about setting up an FTP server on another computer, to compare.

  2. FTP Access IIS

    Hi

I set up an FTP site using IIS to share files within my LAN. I have created a new user on the same PC as FTP site but when i try to access FTP folder from any device on the LAN using username and password of
my new user it refuses to let me in showing the following: Could not log in to the FTP server with the username and password specified.

Steps that I have gone through when setting up FTP:

    • Created ftp folder and set up FTP server
    • specified path to the folder
    • did not use SSL
    • specified IP
    • Created new windows user and added this user to FTP authorisation Rules
    • Excluded FTP from firewall
    • Allowed new user access to the folder itself
Tried to access using both file directory and internet explorer

Did not enable port triggering in the router as was only planning to use FTP locally

I would highly appreciate your help

  3. Windows Defender Firewall + Windows FTP Server

Why is windows defender firewall disobeying my firewall rules?

    • Enabled Windows FTP Servers via Windows 10 Features.
    • Rules are in the firewall allowing FTP access for both passive & control (rules were injected through enabling the service).
    • FTP packets are dropped by the firewall still (confirmed in the logs) but no rule is given, just "DROP".
    • This is over a VPN that is being detected as "Unidentified Network" thus putting the interfaces in the "Public" zone.
    • FTP rules apply to all three zones (Public, Private, and Domain).
    • Turning off Windows Defender Firewall for the specific zone allows the FTP transaction.
    • There are no rules denying this traffic in the list.
