Windows 10: Trouble with an external DVD player

I just purchased an external Ultra Slim Portable DVD Writer by LG. It came with Cyberlink Media Suite, which I downloaded all of the software in this suite. My laptop is a Lenovo Thinkpad X1. No trouble connecting the DVD player and no trouble downloading the software. However, when I try to play anything now in this software or even with Windows Media Player software, I cannot get the disc to play. I can see the files on the disc and I can actually get the files to open and see the images of the different files, but then the file quits automatically after a few seconds. How do I get anything
