Windows 10: Trouble with updates and work time

Hi - I have automatic updates scheduled for 3am when I am not trying to work. I have changed work time to reflect my schedule and scheduled the updates accordingly. Nonetheless, Windows keep going into updates when I'm either trying to work or doing a presentation. Yesterday, in the middle of my trying to use my laptop to do a presentation for a client, the damn update started and took over my computer. I could not pause or stop the update and finally hit the power button and shut down, but...of-course, this brought other issues when I tried to restart and the system went back into update mode. In addition, over the past few weeks every time the system updates, it also changes my personal settings such as font size, display, etc. I disable the touchpad and use a mouse instead, but every time it does updates, it reactivates the touchpad. This is a new(ish) issue that did not occur with earlier updates. It is very disruptive to my work and presentations. I know I cannot stop all updates, but is there some way to stop these updates from taking over? None of the directions outlined on the MS help site seem to help. Thanks for any help!

Hi dalchina. Good news, I followed your suggestion and reinstalled the update and now it appears as "installed correctly" *Biggrin Maybe it was not necessary to run the Windows Update Troubleshooter or maybe if necessary. But using it I do not think it could have worsened something. The installation was very fast, unlike the first time it showed step 1 and step 2 completed.

When you finish testing the Avast suggestion, make sure that you restart your machine.

Then if the issue persists, please return to the trouble shooting list in post# 89

I think there are three steps that remain; the WU troubleshooter, reset WU components, and manual WU reset.

The tutorials provided are just a list of troubleshooting steps. Use only the steps which apply to you.

Since none of the troubleshooting steps here worked, I'd suggest you do a Clean install.
