  1. Try to open various apps, given "explorer.exe, class not registered"

The most frustrating of the apps that I cannot open is Settings, so there is no way for me to navigate around updates and such to see if that is the problem. Most apps that have been downloaded through a browser work well, such as spotify, steam, discord, etc; so I figure it has to relate to windows somehow.

Everything related to windows does not open. I cannot open the start menu, I cannot open the search bar, I cannot edit anything on the taskbar (though I can open some applications such as chrome and files). Other apps that I've downloaded through windows such as amazon, the xbox app, etc also give me the explorer, exe class not registered.

I did manage to go deep diving into my files to find the cmd and administrative cmd, which are tools that estimate could help me fix these issues. And for the record, I've tried many ways of resetting my laptop to factory original and have been given an error message with claims of a problem happening. I take good care of my laptop and this problem appeared out of thin air one morning, so I am really confused as to the origin of this problem.

Any ideas of how I could either fix this error, reset my laptop to factory original, or anything in between would be greatly appreciated.

    :)

    Class not registered for explorer

    Hi,

Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community.

I understand that you receive Class not registered error. We will help you to resolve the issue.

I suggest you to try the steps below and check if it helps.

    • Press “Windows key + R” to get the run window.

    • Type “services.msc” and hit ok to open the services window.
Scroll down to find “Internet Explorer ETW Collector Service” and ensure to have this service started and check if this helps.

I also suggest you to perform SFC scan and check if it helps.

System File Checker (SFC) is a utility in Microsoft Windows that allows users to scan for and restore corruptions in Windows system files. Perform System File Check (SFC), and then check if this fixes the issue.

    1. Press the Windows button + X on your keyboard, a mini dialogue box will appear.

    2. Choose Command Prompt (Admin). You must run the command prompt in Administrator level.

    3. On the command prompt type sfc /scannow and hit enter.

    4. If everything went okay and no errors were found, restart your computer and see if the issue re-occurs.

    Thank you.
