Windows 10: Trying to activate windows 10 need product key

okay so my step dad just gave me this computer and i was trying to change the background

but it said i needed to activate windows 10 i went to security settings and activate

it wouldn't activate so i looked up all the stuff i tried to trouble shoot it which also didn't work so i looked up the error code which led me to

i need a different product key so then i called customer support they had me get the product key off of the side of the computer Tower this product key didn't work either so then he said i had to call my step dad he said hes not even sure if he still has the box with the product key

i am also connected to our homes WiFi using LINKSYS AC1200 USB adapter

should i just give up trying to find this product key and buy a different version of windows 10

or can i buy a product key

please help!!!!
