Windows 10: Turn off/ Wake up problems

I suggest you go to your computer's manufacturer support page and check to see if there is an update for your bios.
If there is an update flash your bios to the newest version. If you already have the latest bios you might try re-flashing the bios with whatever version you have. Be sure to read the instructions that normally are posted with a bios update.

 

Thanks, but I have already updated the BIOS and the motherboard chipset drivers to the latest versions. It made no difference.

 

Another thought I had(which might be crazy) just for grins take out all your ram except for the stick in slot 1 to see if you have the issue. If you still do, replace the stick in slot 1 with one of the other sticks and test again. You could eliminate your ram being the problem this way. I have seen flakey ram do weird stuff.
One other thing I failed to mention-have you poked around in your bios settings to see if there are any related to power? I have seen some bios that had a lot of control over power.
Looking at similar issues being reported around the web, I found where nothing short of a clean install would fix the reboot loop problem for some people. If you decide to go the clean install route test the sleep issue before you install any additional drivers.
Hope you get to the root of your problem.

 

I have not been able to fix this problem yet. As I mentioned, this started happening right around the time I installed the 1511 build on this PC on 12/9.

There have not been that many fixes put out since then. I am wondering if it might not be a good idea to back out all of the system fixes from 12/9 on and see if the problem goes away.

There are two cumulative 1511 fixes and two flash player fixes and a Silverlight fix.

Would it be worth the work to give that a try?

You could try manually uninstalling the updates or you could try recovery options such as system restore or system reset. Although nothing is impossible I really tend to think that a bad windows update would have caused similar problems for a lot more people, unless in your case it's installation got corrupted somehow . You can try one or more of these options and hopefully one will work.
Have you, per chance, done a full scan with Malwarebytes to make sure you don't have any malware?
Also, make sure your power options are set as noted in this photo.

I have always been one to take the plunge and reinstall Windows when something really squirrelly was going on that has no apparent cause and when normal troubleshooting doesn't work. I've also always been of the mind that a clean install as opposed to an upgrade was always best. In the case of the Windows 10 upgrade I performed the upgrade from Windows 7 to 10 in order to register my system with Microsoft's servers. I immediately reformatted the hard drive and reinstalled Windows 10 from scratch. Yes, it's a lot of work but at least I know what I've got when I am done.
Please keep us posted as to your progress or lack thereof.

 

Malwarebytes scan shows no problems.

Spybot shows no problems.

I changed Allow Hybrid sleep to Off.

I will see how it goes.

Well, color me red and embarrassed.

I decided to try removing and adding the keyboard to see if W10 would reinstall the drivers, etc..

I did a shutdown and turned off the power before the PC could automatically reboot. I pulled the USB cable for the keyboard and rebooted. I plugged the USB cable back in and rebooted. Sleep and Shutdown work fine now.

I have no idea what made the PC start its bizarre behavior on that particular day or at all. I doubt if I ever will.

Good deal. Computers do the weirdest things sometimes with no rhyme or reason. I really hate it when something starts working and I can't account for the "why". At those times I don't feel that I've learned anything.

 

After trying to solve this problem for a number of moths, I tried your advice and it worked!
